  • As a dentist and a person who used to have a tongue piercing, I would say the smaller the better. The better advice would be to take it out immediately, but many don't listen. I have about 4 fractured/chipped teeth because of my tongue piercing. I didn't believe it at the time either, but the truly are destructive to your teeth and gums. At the very minimum, get really small balls that won't interfere with your chewing. The worst is when you accidentally bite down on a metal ball while chewing, and that can really fracture a cusp of your tooth right off. Soft balls are probably better as you at least chip your teeth as much.
