Ecology is the science that attempts to answer such questions about how the nature works. A quick look around the internet finds that the term ecology (oekologie ) was coined in 1866 (some states, 1869) by the German biologist, Ernst Haeckel. He joined 2 Greek words, 'oikos' meaning "house" or "dwelling", and 'logos' meaning "science" or "study" to coin this work. Thus ecology is the "study of the household of nature" i.e, study of an animal in relation to both the physical environment and other plants and animals with which it interacted. Ernst Heinrich Philipp August Haeckel (February 16, 1834 — August 8, 1919), also written von Haeckel, was an eminent German biologist (mainly a zoologist) and philosopher.
