In the USA, it's McDonalds unfortunatly. In southern Italy, where my family is from, pasta and tomatoes are the staple food.

Staple foods? Here in Canada it's beer, back bacon, Kraft Dinner, beer, perogies, pea soup, beer, poutine, "Montreal" smoked meat, and beer. Oh, and Tim Horton's coffee for the non-drinkers.

I would say that Americans consume a lot of red meat, in fact, most probably consume unhealthy amounts.

The country I live in is Japan. It is totally and completely a rice culture and all food revolves around rice. However, soy beans are huge too. Many foods are based on soy beans.

Here in the good ol' USA it's fast food. McDonald's, Burger King, Taco Hell and the like. That's why there are soooo many fat people here.

Well - UK maybe potato in Britain too as a staple ingredient. Typically British meals, although diverse and different, will consist of fish/meat, potatoes and vegetables.
