    • Linda Joy
You don't put yourself on one either?
    • Victorine
A budget is not synonymous with an "allowance".
    • Linda Joy
A budges contains allowances for various things.
  • When I was a child I received a 25 cent allowance each week. This gave me 9 cents for Saturday matinee at the movies, 10 cents for a box of popcorn and 5 cents for a candy bar leaving me with 1 cent I used to buy some Double-Bubble bubble gum. Can't do that today! But that was 1945 and 46. Today I am on an allowance called Social Security which really doesn't give me enough to live on.

I can live on it (ssdi) but then I've been poor all my life and I'm good at it by now!

My SS is far below the national average because I was a teacher and didn't pay into SS all those years. Also because I will get some from teacher retirement, SS will take 2/3 rds of it so i will not end up any better off. Because I am almost 80 I cannot get disability although I was working full time as a school bus driver when I had a stroke and lost most of my vision so I could no longer drive. If the government can screw its people it will!

I've found just the opposite! If not for the VA hospital I'd be dead. The government paid me the best wages I've ever earned, and now the only money I get $750 a month comes from them and I'm also using government assisted housing and I get $15 a month in food stamps! Wait! It sounds to me like the government employed you all your life!

you said you had horses when you were young Linda? Where theres horses theres money.
    • Linda Joy
Wrong again, stevo. My second husband had horses. And he was flat broke.
  • no but i feel like i am
  • A Student Allowance is a weekly payment that can help with your living expenses ... You do have to pay back the living costs, as it's part of the Student Loan.

I'm not a student at the moment. But that's good information to have. However, I try not to go into debt. Some students also get money from their parents, some people give themselves or their spouse a budgeted allowance of sorts for personal items, and some don't even think about how they spend their money.
  • My pay is an ounce of weed per week. I'm a caregiver. Sometimes I "almost" want to care enough to give some to mom. :P
    • Linda Joy
      I wish!
  • kind of , irn on ssi
  • shit, it's in the negative, too. -__-
    • Linda Joy
Not if you're getting an ounce a week!! You should be able to pull a profit off that!
    • Wakko
HA! Fat chance making it 6 days without having to re-up. xD
    • Linda Joy
That's a choice and a matter of rationing.
  • For the first time span in my life, I'm only doing one regular job. From age 12 until I took my current job, I always had at least two jobs. I never had to ask my parents for allowance, but they used to pay me a few bucks when I got A's on my report card as a kid.
    • Linda Joy
Well at least now you can spend more time with your kids while they are young! That's important!
  • pension and SS
  • Yes. I am 70-years-old and live on a fixed income, which is an allowance
  • What independent adult would be "on an allowance"?
    • Linda Joy
One they put themselves on for budgeting purposes. Like I said if you don't like the question skip it, then go write 5 interesting questions for everyone to answer. And you didn't answer the question.
    • Victorine
A budget is not synonymous with an allowance, which is allotted by someone other than oneself.
    • Linda Joy
I can't believe you were a teacher and can't even answer this simple question. Here, I'll make it multiple choice to help you out. A. Yes B. No. Simple, right?
  • Yes. I can only allow myself to spend $800 per month more than my social security check automatically deposits in my checking account each month. If I had known I was going to live this long I would have worked another 3 to 5 years before retiring early. In my case that old song "THE ROAD GO'S ON FOREVER & THE PARTY NEVER ENDS " turned out to be true.
  • A trust fund? Yes. And it's called a monthly budget, not an allowance. The latter is for children...and leftist basement-dwellers parasitizing Commie Mommie and Daddy.
  • Yup, it's called "social security".
  • Yes. I am on a certain type of allowance from the government.
  • I guess that depends on how you look at it.I'm on Social Security & sometimes I think an allowance would be a better deal!!!
