  • (Is that Ian Hunter in your avatar?) No, but it does make the unfunctional THINK they're good.

Yes, that is Ian Hunter on my avatar. I got my screen name from a song he wrote in his early days with Mott The Hoople. It was released in 1971 on the "Wildlife" album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ho8WGDQL90

In 1984 I managed to get an old hot rod for a car, and I was doing okay for money, but I had nowhere I could play music, so I rode around in that car, singing to cassette tapes, one of which was by a band I had not heard of before: MOTT THE HOOPLE. (It was All The Young Dudes. I found it at a gas station, for a buck, on an out-of-print cassette) (score!) That tape rarely got actually ejected from the deck that whole summer. We just played it and played it, learning to sing every note, with every inflection...all in that "husky English rasp" he had, which was a quality that excited me, in a singer. And I sang a lot of Psychedelic Furs and Small Faces that summer too, as the result. Damn. Those were innocent, good and so much better times then. That whole album just killed me, and because Hunter is ultimately a ballad man, I also stumbled across Irene Wilde (from All American Alien Boy, but you knew that). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03M4VXInbgM Today because I went looking, I found the "You're Never Alone With A Schizophrenic" album (has 30 cuts, including BASTARD, which is now officially my favorite song (of the season). :D Good shlt.
