Old ChristianHere are all three, "stake, tree, cross; KJV Acts 5:30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. Acts 10:39 King James Version (KJV) 39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: MATTHEW 27:35 CJB After they had nailed him to the stake, they divided his clothes among them by throwing dice. MATTHEW 27:35 CEV The soldiers nailed Jesus to a cross and gambled to see who would get his clothes.

Jewels VernMatthew 27:35King James Version (KJV) 35 "And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots." You are looking at some very sloppy versions. The Romans did in fact crucify people on a tree trunk in many cases, so it's ok to call it "hanged on a tree". You can get a "Greek-English Translation Of The New Testament" (any brand) and it will point out the translation mistakes

Old ChristianYou still haven't answered my question.

Jewels VernIf your question is about the translation of one word into three, there is nothing but to look at the many reference books. Almost everybody uses Strong's Concordance. I use Young's Concordance because it's so much easier to understand. Asking strangers on the internet to explain bible translations will not get you straight answers because people in general will make up things rather than admit that they don't know.

I thought Jesus was nailed to the cross and then hung. Not sure.
