  • Global warming is caused by the shift of our galaxy into a place in the universe where there is much more energy. This shift will actually make our galaxy (which is in fact NOT the Milky Way galaxy) join the Milky Way. This is a very recent research breakthrough. http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread288379/pg1 Deny Ignorance NOW!
  • The answer to this question is actually rather controversial. There are those that say that man-made CO2 is causing global warming. Then there are others that say that it is a wholly natural phenomenon that is cause by changes in the output of the sun among other factors. Despite what those that want to blame humans would have you believe, the science on this is far from settled.
  • As Glenn Blaylock says, "...the science on this is far from settled." However, there is a third group, not mentioned by Glenn, who suggest that it could be a natural phenomenon being exacerbated by human actions. As it is possible, and even feasible, that human actions are helping to worsen the situation sensible people are doing whatever they can to ease the situation. If, years down the line, it proves to have been an entirely natural phenomenon we will have lost nothing. Conversely, if it eventually turns out to be a phenomenon that human actions have caused or helped to worsen and we have done nothing it may well be too late to do anything. Better, I think to be pro-active than to stick our communal head in the sand, just in case.

  • Well, if you're a solipsist, your own mind causes it. =) However, if you believe in an external physical reality, it's still being highly debated whether or not consumerism and CO2 are causing it or it's just another natural warming trend that will be followed by another natural cooling trend.
  • The sun. When it gets hotter, we get hotter. This is the same reason why Mars is also getting hotter despite the fact that nobody lives there.

  • I think that global warming probably is occuring and that human are mostly the cause of it. "The majority of climate scientists agree that global warming is primarily caused by human activities such as fossil fuel burning and deforestation. The conclusion that global warming is mainly caused by human activity and will continue if greenhouse gas emissions are not reduced has been endorsed by at least 30 scientific societies and academies of science, including all of the national academies of science of the major industrialized countries. The American Association of Petroleum Geologists is the only scientific society that rejects the predominant opinion." • Co2 emmissions.
  • Even now, we still don't know definitively. Even local climate and weather systems are only predictable over short periods of time, quickly degenerating into chaos. Any attempt on our part to make any final conclusions about predicting the global climate, or even explaining any aspect of it, are premature - we might need to wait for quantum computers that will be powerful enough to rapidly model the entire Earth's climate millions of times over. We know atmospheric CO2 traps heat from the sun, which is why we call it a greenhouse gas. The reason why Venus, so close to Earth, and the second planet from the Sun, is so violently hot, even hotter than the "day-side" of Mercury (the "night-side" is actually way below 0 degrees C), is because of the very very thick clouds of CO2. We also know that humans are emitting large quantities of CO2 into the atmosphere all the time. However, we also know that natural processes, specifically volcanoes, can and have easily dwarf the combined CO2 emissions of all mankind, not including all the more potent greenhouse gases, like methane, that are also released by volcanoes. We also know Earth has went through both large and small scale variations in global temperature throughout its history, with or without industrial man. During human history prior to our belching out CO2 gas like there's no tomorrow, we have seen even more pronounced warming trends that eventually abated and even turned into mini-ice-ages. Further, we know that the sun's radiance does vary over time (in addition to the general, VERY SLOW heating up of the sun over millions of years which doesn't play a factor here). We've seen warming on Mars concurrent with our own, as evidenced by the melting away of portions of the Martian polar ice caps. Some scientists have attempted to explain how Earth and Mars could be experiencing a warming trend at the same time without resorting to "coincidence", and there are some theories that might explain both warmings independently of one another - then again, there is the idea that both warmings are caused by variance of the Sun. Frankly, I don't think that the cause of global warming is important at all - other than as the answer to scientific curiosity. If we suspect that it's even possible that we could be just contributing somewhat to a warming trend, we should try to take steps to reduce our impact via CO2 emissions. Besides, it wouldn't kill us to innovate and replace old-fashioned fossil fuel based energy with cleaner, maybe ultimately cheaper alternatives - it's not like the fossil fuel reserves will be there forever! Also, we should be thinking of geo-engineering schemes to control or reduce the warming - if we really believe we've caused global warming merely by the side effect of our energy production methods, surely if we apply money and intelligence to the problem, we can engineer solutions to reduce greenhouse gas in the atmosphere, or otherwise cool the planet. Finally, we should take ownership of the planet and its problems, even if they're not caused by us, and stop bickering at each other and doing bad science for political motivations. We should act as though we are causing it or making it worse, and take steps to reduce emissions, all the while thinking about how we would prevent more catastrophic warming through science and geo-engineering whether we're the cause or not. Most important, we should stop politicizing science, since right now you get crucified if you even suggest, with evidence that there might be other causes besides (or in addition to) human CO2. Is pointing fingers really going to stop the inevitable flooding of coastal cities? Because that is inevitable - maybe not as a result of this warming trend, or not for a hundred years, but eventually Earth will be as hot as it has been many many times in its prehistory - too hot for most or all of the ice caps. And we should start thinking about dealing with that now.

  • 3rd world countries - China, Russia
  • Greenhouse Gases.
  • Al Gore or the sun.
  • Us. Us making pollution. Us throwing our garbage all over the place, and burning stuff that shouldn't be burned. WE are the cause of global warming!
  • I heard that humans werent the total cause of global warming! It all happens because of the Green house effect, and the Co2 in the air.
  • mostly CO2 emissions...but that is a very simplied answer...
  • Humans.....well at least we are making the temps rise at a faster rate, with us exerting a lot of Green House Gases into the Atmosphere.
  • Mostly from increasing carbon dioxide gas in the atmosphere -- the inevitable product of combustion of fossil fuels -- which traps radiant heat that would otherwise escape to space.
  • The panic over global warning is total bunk! Global warming has been going on continuously since the ice age. Were it not for global warming, this planet would be uninhabitable. ..regardless of what Al Gore or anyone else says.
  • The quick answer is increased levels of carbon dioxide and other similar gases in the atmosphere. What the main contributor is, however, is not known. Human industries definitely contribute, but we have not yet been able to plot out every source to determine all the causes. All we can do is try to reduce what we have control over, and if it turns out that we are past the point of no return or that natural causes are having a greater effect, then we don't have many more options, at least not that we know of yet. All we know is that CO2 level is substantially higher than its been in the past 30,000 or so years and is increasing quite rapidly. The rest is really quite speculative at the moment.
  • My theory is that it's caused by the friction of so many people engaged in the sexual act.
  • Cycles in solar activity, some believe that man made CO2 emissions cause global warming, however that seems false when you read the available scientific data.

  • the green house effect enhanced by carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere.
  • I believe it is caused by the hot air that issues forth from Al Gore's big, lying mouth.
  • It is a natural occurance every 20,000 or so years.
  • Contrary to popular belief it is not carbon dioxide cause by the burning of fossil fuels, which is only a small contributor; common water vapor plays a much greater role in reflecting/containing heat. Numerous forces are at play, everything from volcanos to sun spots. When various forces align themselves the earth will heat or cool. We know that over geologic time the earth has been through numerous heating and cooling cycles. Politicians, environmentalist extremists, the media, and profit seekers are on the cabon dioxide bandwagon because they don't know better, and/or because they hope to gain by it.
  • Everything. And everything is because of global warming.
  • Cow farts. My 2 cents.
  • Lack of actors and musicians speaking about it.
  • Deforestation. The harvested (butchered) trees were a major consumer of CO2. Not to mention the effect on evapotranspiration and albedo.
  • The Sun. It's been much warmer in the past. I do not believe that mankind has caused any global warming. In a few years you will be hearing about global cooling if the cycle changes. Die-hard believer in global warming are beginning to say that the warming causes cooling, because the data is showing that things are not warming up in many cases. There hasn't been so much double-speak since Orwell's 1984.
  • in addition to losing all the trees we have also paved over so much of the earth and left so little that can actually absorb the weather. Heat and gases just reflect off the pavement and have nothing to absorb them.

  • The sun. Nothing more, nothing less. This man-made global warming hoax has hopefully played itself out and Al Gore has been exposed for the fool that he is hopefully. I am assuming most people are intelligent enough to realize what a joke the whole *Global Warming* thing was, it seems that might be a stretch...........
  • Green house gas pollution such as carbon dioxide produce green house effect, trapping the heat in Earth resulting in increasing in temperture. I think this is the cause of Global warming.
  • Mt StHellens is currently releasing more CO2 than ALL of humanity in Washington state and it is not even a very active volcano. man might be having a small influence on CO2 levels but even if CO2 is causing global warming we are not the sole provider the sun is the primary contributor to global warming with solar activity variance matching global temperature variance almost perfectly since we started measuring. over the past 2 decades there is a slight (like 5% of the total range) increase beyond the solar activity which may be attributed to greenhouse gasses, both man made and natural.

  • "We have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements, and make little mention of any doubts we may have. Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest." Author: Stephen Schneider (leading advocate of the global warming theory)(in interview for Discover magazine, Oct 1989) In the 1970's the top scientists (including one Carl Sagan)predicted that a new IGE-AGE would be upon us by the 2000's.Hmmmm.... The earth has warmed by a fraction of a degree over the last several decades. The question is if it is caused by human activity. The fact that volcanoes, several of them have produced more greenhouse gasses in the last 100 years than any man-made generation has, ever, pretty much says it all if you have any common sense. Or you could listen to Al Gore. Just depends if you want to be sensible or hysteric.
  • elongated beams in the earth's crevices in different continents triggered by the rotation of earth. when the earth turns and a perimeter comes into line an automatic ? activates the beam to weaken the ozone and as the world turns It leaves that perimeter and that beam deactivates another another beam activates to keep the ozone weakened 24 hours a day. my global teams have stopped global warming off and on many times=results the glaciers stopped melting and the freshwater on top of saltwater and glaciers started freezing temporarily. my teams have turned them off so many times, i figured out how we can delete global warming. have a nice day. • Assuming that global warming is factual (only saying that because there is a controversy over it, and don't want to be DR), I have several theories: volcanic activity, more accurate temperature measurements, more accurate temperature logs, and recovery from the Ice Age. My favorite is the last one. Think about it: the glaciers are remnants from the Ice Age, right? That means they weren't there before. It only makes sense that if the Earth was returning to a pre-Ice Age temperature, they would melt. The Sahara Desert was once tropical, according to archeologists. Why isn't it now? The water has been sitting in the polar ice caps, frozen and not part of the global water cycle. Okay, so they're melting, isn't that a good thing? Wouldn't that mean there'll be more water to go around? Deserts would be able to get more rainfall and there would be fewer droughts worldwide, theoretically.
  • Natural cycle augmented by human activity.
  • The Sun.
  • I would say much of it is caused from mankind, and a small amount through natural earth cycles.
  • Cows farting.
  • Greediness of US industry and its lobbying, and the vulnerable US govt. which do not ready to decrease the emission of green house gases is the main culprits in the scenario.
  • According to a UN report, the single biggest man made contributor to global warming is a massive 18% carbon emission generated by the livestock industry. Surprisingly, this is 40% greater than the carbon emission generated by all global transport sectors put together.
  • The earth's core goes through heating and cooling periods. We are actually cooling off right now not heating up. Pollution is still bad but the global warming argument has some inaccuracies.
  • because it's not cooling
  • It's not. It's actually cooling. http://www.nbcaugusta.com/weather/news/16011587.html http://www.infowars.com/cooling-trend-puts-global-warming-theory-in-doubt/ By the way, the scientific community and the news media have been predicting climate disasters for over 100 years. However, every 25 years or so, they change their minds as to whether we are going to burn or freeze (http://www.businessandmedia.org/specialreports/2006/fireandice/fireandice.asp). So, this is just more of the same old stuff as people seek funding and government seeks more control.
  • CO2 from burning fossil fuels keeps heat from escaping as infrared radiation.
  • to many ppl filled with hot air.

  • ocean's are warming up
  • all the polutants we put in the atmosphere to make the o-zone layer thinner and thinner causing the sun rays to become more detramental melting the glaciers and setting off a chain reaction of mother nature taking a shit on us.
  • Farting, cows are faring and releasing methane. It's true, funny but true. There are so many cows in the world used for food that they actually contribute greatly to greenhouse gasses which causes global warming.
