  • The following link will take you to a picture diagram showing the percentage of military spending. Until Federal Law is changed, you are obligated by Law to pay Federal, State and Local taxes, regardless of your stature. No One is above the Law. http://www.warresisters.org/piechart.htm
  • Beware of agenda-driven organizations like warresisters.com who manipulate the numbers to make military spending appear to be much larger than it actually is. If you read their "small print" they admit they exclude governmental entitlements, such as Social Security, from the equation, and lump many other non-military costs into their military-related figure. The net result of these tactics is to grossly inflate the apparent size of military spending, from less than 20% to over 50% of the budget. (According to the Feb. 4, 2003 New York Times, the real percentage of the federal budget devoted to discretionary military spending is 17.5 percent. The Times also reported that 55.4 percent of the federal budget goes to Social Security, Medicare and other entitlements.) So, just beware of what you read on the websites of special interest groups, and look for multiple sources before you consider your question to have been answered.)
