  • I think that in the New Testament Jesus said not to worry about all the rules made in the Old Testament.
  • Tattoo's are only forbidden (kindof) in Leviticus, so unless you are going to follow the hundreds of other laws in Leviticus (including dietary, etc) Tattoo's are not forbidden to Christians...and the same holds true for cutting hair..only in Leviticus and only if you are also going to observe all the 600+ laws of Leviticus (actually it only prohibits *rounding* the corners of the hair and beard (so not necessarily meant for women to begin with).. some interesting info on this re: tattoos is http://www.opc.org/qa.html?question_id=170
  • Tattoos were forbidden in the Law given to Moses. As Christians we no longer live under those commandments, but they still give an indication of God's feelings on the matter. (Besides, they're ugly.) I've never read anywhere in the Bible that a woman couldn't get her hair cut. Paul wrote that the custom was for men to wear their hair short and women long,...but everyone needs at least a trim, now and again.
  • yes they are I have a very long answer but its well worth writing to you and its also well worth you read it for yourself! the bible says 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. so if you saw a temple lets say a church and it had graffiti all over it even if it was cool looking art how would it look to you or how would other people see it as? and let me ask you the bible also says 2 Corinthians 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. notice we are to be separate so my question is why are we not under the law anymore? because i know the bible says Romans 6:13-15 13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. 15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. so no you shouldn't sin because if you truly have Jesus it will not be your nature to sin but to do righteousness and if you are tempted to sin Jesus will make a way out for you if you rely on Him so why are we not under the law? well because we are under grace and what is grace? the free gift what is the free gift Jesus taking away our sins! why so that we are not dead in sin but alive unto righteousness we are not held down by the bondage of sin but we are set free becuase Jesus has changed us into a new creature and taken sin yes Jesus takes sin "out of our life" does this mean we wont ever sin of course not! but there is a differnace between sinning once in a blue moon and living in sin so as we see up there we read that our body is the temple of God do you really wanna make it look trashed and make it to look like the rest of the world or do you want it to look holy like the bible says 1 Peter 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: now on the topic of hair if your a man you should keep it cut if your a woman you should never ever NEVER EVER CUT IT! it doesn't say that in the bible! mmm yes it does! were? well let me show you! 1 Corinthians 11 4Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. 5But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven. so as woman our head should be covered? yes but with what if our head is not covered its like we are shaved because our head is not covered with....... hair! 6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. ok so if a woman's head is shaved then its the same thing as a woman with her hair short or cut if you cut your hair is the same as being bald if your bald its the same as being trimmed or to snip or to have a hair cut and if its a shame for these things then just don't cut your hair let your head be covered by your hair! just don't "cut it" well how do we know that the covering is our hair? because it says so in here 15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. see your hair is your covering but shorn doesn't mean cut right? well i know it does but lets say it didn't ok? just for the sake of our convo lets say you had 10 checks for 10 million dollars and lets say one of the checks had dirt on it or Gum or it was cracked everywhere are you gonna throw away that 10 million dollar check of yours because it has Gum or dirt or even cracks all on it? of course not! your going to do whatever it takes to keep it from cracking and you'll wash it clean protect the cracks and try to make it as nice as possible so its still usable so do you remember when Moses saw the the back of God and saw some of Gods glory even his face shined with with Gods glory it was glowing! so how much more is our hair a glory for us unto God do you really wanna cut down some of the glory God has given you? i know i don't! that's right! I'm a woman 24 and i don't cut my hair! although age doesn't matter if you or a girl woman old lady just don't snip cut chop trim or shave your hear so now we see that if a woman has short hair cuz its cut its a shame unto her and its the same as being shaved because now she has no covering for her head but if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her Because now she has a covering! so what if a man has long hair? well 14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? the nature of it all is in there hearts nature teaches us not to steal lie kill be bad its not saying animals and the earth teaches us not to have long hair if we are a man its saying the very nature in our hearts the laws God has written on every single heart out there and what is the law for? the law is to teach us what sin is so that we can come to Jesus and ask Him to take away that sin so that we are no longer under that sin or doing that sin and therefor not under that law and all laws for that matter if Jesus truly takes away the sinning against those laws because then we are no longer under the bondage of that sin so what if we do sin? well i have some verse for you James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. Hebrews 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, Hebrews 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. James 1:23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: Jude 1:23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. what is the spirit well its the Holy Ghost! so with all that i have said i have more info if you have more questions! ok well... much love! and God bless you bye!
  • In simple words you can cut your hair but you can't get a tattoo. Oh and Morg the Amy wife Jesus didn't say that, sorry.
  • It's sort of a fundamentally vague question when you say "against". And when you say "still", are you suggesting that the bible keeps changing? There isn't really anything "against" the bible (ex. how can anything be "against a Psalm"?), since for every suggestion, there's a contradictory suggestion. It's not a rule book; trying to use it as such would cause intense frustration leading to desparate cherry-picking. The Old Testament was written by and for the Jewish Religion. If you want to pick some commandments out of it while ignoring others, that's your business. Jews do "believe" in Jesus, as do Muslims. All three are are Abrahamic religions. Jesus never said "go start a new religion for gentiles and name it after me". Jesus never heard of the Christian religion. He was Jewish and he preached Judaism to Jews. Jews believe exactly what Jesus said, that he was a prophet teaching the way of God. It was Saul of Tarsus, whom Jesus never met, that started the religion a century later. There, in fact, are commandments in the old testament stated as coming from God that you can not cut your hair or get a tattoo (though some I've seen are beautiful). This is why Jews cherry-pick from the Jewish Bible (the old testament) and why many modern Christians bother only with the Christian Bible (the New Testament). If you are Christian, you need the Old Testament as much as you need the Book of Mormon or the Koran (since all three are Abrahamic and therefore related, but pertain to entirely separate religions in practice).
  • just to what daisymae19 said... You can't say "tattoo's are only forbidden [kind of]". God wasn't playing around when he was giving us all these laws to obey. He didn't say, "Right, even though i said to my children not marks on themselves, today is their lucky day. Whoever wants to get a tattoo can". God would be contradicting himself. Its there, in black and white, every time we open our bibles, "Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD". Lev 19:28. Doesn't matter New or Old Testament. If it mattered, the bible wouldn't have the Old Testament as part of it. These are God's words, we cannot pick and choose what we like, and what we don't like. It also states in Lev 19:27: Do not cut the hair at the sides off your head or clip off the edges of your beard. Oh, last time i checked, i was born a sinner, and would have never in a million years been able to fulfill all of God's laws. That is why God sent Jesus to die for us. So now, if we can't fulfill all of God's laws we wont die because of God's grace, we have been saved. We all know this one: For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16. Cor 11:3-7 says: But i want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. Every man who prays of prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. But every woman who prays of prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head-it is the same way as having her head shaved. For if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head. A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. Read also about proper dress in the link below. Do you think you can get away with not cutting your hair now days? If you didn't all eyes would be on you and not on God. http://christianbiblereference.org/faq_dress.htm It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of it name. This calls for wisdom. Let those who have insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666. Rev 13:16-18. I still believe no tattoos. No markings, nothing. If you really like them, just put on a couple of fake ones to get it out of your system. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. 1 Cor 6:17.
  • in LEV 19:28 IT HAS ABNOUT TATTOES.
  • 12-24-2016 The bible is not all addressed to one group of people. It's like a letter addressed to your uncle: you can read it and learn from it, but when it commands to do something, you are not bound by that command because it was not addressed to you. Most of the old testament was addressed to the tribes of Judah, Benjamin, and Levi, the people we now call Jews. The other ten tribes and the gentiles were not obliged to live according to Jewish law. There were other sections of the old testament that did apply to all people equally. The part you mention is in a book titled Leviticus, which means "To The Levites." It is specifically addressed to the tribe of Levi.
  • If you are a true Christian having Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour you are not under the Old Testament Law of God. As a true Christian one is under the Law of Love given Christians who believe in Him as their Lord and Saviour. However the two laws you mentioned were ceremonial laws for the Jews only and never for the gentile. If you do not believe in Jesus Christ then you are still subject to all the Law of God in the Old Testament, a law that no mortal man can obtain perfection enough to be saved.
