Car Craft magazine commissioned a comparison between synthetic and conventional oils and found that, while claims that synthetics lower viscosity were true, the hefty price tag made choosing between the two options somewhat difficult; the report indicated that the cost of synthetic is typically between double and quadruple that of conventional.
On the Other: Synthetic Oil Performs Better
The Car Craft report, as well as the advice offered on AutoMedia.com, shows that the performance of synthetic oil is stronger and that it helps to improve the longevity of an engine. Combined with the fact that synthetics require fewer oil changes, there is a compelling case for paying more money per quart.
Bottom Line
In the end, the better performance and increased longevity offered by synthetic oil makes it an attractive option for those willing to pay more per quart.
