  • Overload springs are crucial accessories to your Dodge if you use your truck for loading or towing. These springs are designed to keep the back of your truck from dipping while in use. If you are not sure if your Dodge has overload springs, it is time to get your hands dirty and check.

    Overload Springs

In 2003, Dodge began to put stock overload springs in their HD 2500/3500 trucks for a better and smoother ride. Before this, proper overload springs were only available in tow packages. The tow package for any Dodge will include an upgraded set of overload springs installed in the back. The company or dealership may refer to them as rear leaf springs. The springs will be on the back of the truck and tucked just above the axle and underneath the frame of the bed. An overload spring will sit above the normal spring on the back of your Dodge where the axle sits. There will be two springs here that will allow you to know that an overload spring has been installed. The reason for the two springs is to help keep the back end from dragging. One spring support the weight while the other keeps the back end up.

    Purchasing

Every Dodge dealership will have a tow package available for the Dodge if you do not have overload springs. However, 4x4 shops can install aftermarket overload springs onto your vehicle, which usually helps save you money. Any 4x4 shop can give you a free quote on the phone on how much overload springs will cost.
