  • Because people feel blue when they pick blueberries.
  • Most blueberries do look somewhat blue when fully ripened. The variations in types of blueberries make for the different colorations, there. And who feels like saying purpleberries, anyway? =P
  • I have three blueberry bushes in my yard, and every one of them grows blue berries. The only time they appear slightly purplish is before they are fully ripe (but it's really more of a pinkish color). I think maybe it depends on the specific type of blueberry.
