As a child my family went on a day trip to a city to do some shopping. On the way we had a picnic and a bee flew near to me and being little I panicked and swiped at it, causing it to sting me right on the bottom lip. I then had to go around the shops with a swollen bottom lip that looked like I was chewing an inflatable life-boat. I also got stung between the toes a few years ago when I pulled on footwear without checking inside (I always do this now), which was a bit of a surprise.

Our house had snow berry bushes which attracted hundreds of honey bees every summer. My friends and I played with them collecting bees in a mason jar. The jar would hold about a dozen bees before the attempt to catch another would release one or two. I was never stung by a bee while doing this, but one day when not collecting, a bee nailed me in the temple area. Hurt like hell.
