Is there a way to fill in an unwanted swimming pool so that it can be easily transformed back into a usable pool at a later date?

you could try filling it in with dirt.. although it might crack. (due to freezing/unfreezing of moisture in the dirt deepening on where you live) and you'd have to get all the dirt out again...

Why fill it? Build an arched bridge over it and treat it like a pond. OR, you could build a slightly raised deck over it, string lights around the pool area, and use it as a dance floor at parties. Yeah, Baby! +5

Depending on where you live .... you could line it with plastic / vinyl and then fill it in with fill dirt ... Should be able to take out the dirt at a later date and have a good pool ready ... I'd speak to a pro pool company in the area just to be on the safe side .. +5
