yes. Kids grow up, and so they will mature and begin to focus more as they discover what their priorities are.

I sometimes have my doubts ... IF the world even last too much longer ... Remember 2012 looms before us and with all the info we have ; it COULD spell BIG changes in the world as we know it ...
-
Are they? They don't seem as bad as the jackasses in my generation (Y) or the ones before that were even worse (baby boomers and X).
-
hard to tell i see a lot kids going to school whether or not they become something is another story. I not taking any chances though this coming generation could end the world rather than run it..

Who are you to suggest that kids are unfocused compared to other generations? Anyway, American dominance in what exactly? America is certainly dominant in the fattest countries charts, where else?
-
I thought it was already sliding away.

America doesn't have much "dominance." Public school curriculum here usually rates #40-50 in international education charts. The Europeans call us the fattest country, which we really are. America is also one of top targets for terrorism.
-
No. I guess the Europeans are too laid back to be dominant, but look out for India and China. One day Americans will have the job of answering customer service calls for Indian companies.
-
Given that US dominance has never depended on the focus or non of the kids of any day, I see no correlation at all. The slipping dominance in the field of Science, which peaked in the 1960's is mostly due to the short sighted educational policies, and partly due to the increase in standard of living in some other countries. The slipping military dominance is mostly due to the short sighted response of the American taxpayer to military spending. The loss of dominance is the field of medicine is mostly due to the greed of the pharmaceutical companies, and insurance companies. The loss of dominance in the leadership field is completely due to the media coverage of the minority of corrupt people in leadership positions in the US.

Dominance - slominance! Dominate who? The only reason we dominate anything is because we came out of WW2 practically unharmed and most of the industrialized world was wrecked. It was a phase only, a brief paragraph in a fat book of history going back 6,000 years. The rest of the world has mended and / or built themselves up while we just became consumers and gave up producing anything worthwhile ourselves. The factories which the world economy relies are now mostly overseas, along with the cheap labor and the expansionist governments. We cannot support the costs of our society with a lousy "service economy", and what money we do have doesn't stay here to build anything new or to invest in our own future but elsewhere to finance the growth and expansion of other lands. America only dominates the world due to it's huge standing army - an army which we can't honestly pay for anymore without borrowing from nations who will most likely try the domination game themselves someday. And the largess from these rising nations is rapidly drying up as America becomes more and more irrelevant on the world stage - and when the influx of foreign capitol finally dries up the whole period of American dominance will be over. Your talking about "unfocused" kids here, nuts to that - the problem isn't unfocused kids but unhinged adults who wont really help themselves by investing in their own land and their own people. There's a reason why America doesn't rate number 1 in anything but military might - because as a nation we don't look after our own people, we elect self serving hacks to rule us, our companies have deserted our shores for tax breaks and cheap labor, and our people are more interested in a good time and material goods then actually repairing and building new infrastructures to encourage new industry and a better quality of life. American "dominance" is a myth, that was then - this is now...today we "dominate" only at the sufferance of our creditors - and when we aren't needed in that role anymore they will simply stop lending us more money and call all the outstanding notes due - and then we're really going to be in some deep do-do. Don't blame the kids - blame the parents who raised them - the children are just a mirror of the times we live in, we made what the mirror reflects - we are the true unfocused slackers in our society.
