I was without electricity for ten days when a hurricane came thru Florida in 2005 ... I simply used ice to keep my insulin, milk, lunch meat etc cold until I got my power back on ... I had oil lamps and candles ... so it was no big deal.
-
Buy a lot of candles and make like Lincoln by self-educating myself.
-
Fire up the generator. I live in the sticks & the power goes out whenever the wind blows.
-
Go nuts! Been there, done that! I went thru that BS a few years ago;when I lived in FL after we got hit by 3 hurricanes in a row!

Been there, done that. In Northern California, about 10 years ago, PG&E, those wonderful people who made the movie Erin Brockovich possible, decided to cut tree trimming costs to save money. Along came a huge storm and knocked down powerlines all over the place. We were without power for over a week. Our meat freezer had about $500 in meat which was, of course, a goner. No heat of course, because of the electronic thermostat. No idea when the power would come back on. We had a gas stove, but no microwave, checking e-mail was about impossible because even the library was without power. There were a thousand little inconveniences. The worst was that no one had any idea when the power was going to come back on again, so we couldn't plan very well. We got by though. It's not life threatening, but very, very annoying.

I'd spend my days working at the library for the week, or spend it commandeering a table at a coffee shop.. need my internet connection!
-
I would sit back and smoke a joint, then sit in the woods and meditate to the sounds of nature. Taking this as a great chance to leave all the fake material stuff behind and get back in touch with my true-self.

survive! I will play cricket all the day long and sleep at night!

It happened to us twice...at our home in North Carolina. The first time it resulted from a hurricane (Fran) and the second was an ice storm. Without electricity, we have no water, either. I had a powerful, whole-house propane-fed generator professionally installed that will power up everything in that very large home (3500 sq. ft.) for five full days. It automatically kicks in when there is a power failure, and tests itself once per week. Its cost was $10,000, but well worth it, especially following that horrible ice storm. +5

I had no electricity for a month while on vacation in the Highlands. It really brings it home to you how much you need to learn to be self sufficient

7-24-2017 This area loses power for a day or two occasionally. Three days has been the worst so far. The only problem is that my freezer will hold food for three days, but I'm not sure about the fourth day. I keep thinking I should get a generator, but I have put it off for ten years now, because the generator would cost almost as much as the food is worth.
