6-20-2017 I fed myself and my mother for six years on $70 to $100 per month, and put away about a half ton of food besides. Oh, and I didn't spend that much every month. I did that by only buying food at sale prices, and when I found a good price I bought all I could. For example, butter went on sale for a buck a pound in 2008, so I bought a hundred pounds and froze it. I recently learned that the USA has reached a new high in butter consumption, 5.6 pounds per person per year. I have been using 5.9 pounds per year for the last nine years and I have enough to continue at that rate for nine more years. And I only paid a buck a pound for it.
