If I am put on the spot all of a sudden not having time contemplating what I am about to say, then I do really poorly and stumble all over myself. However, if I actually know what I am talking about and had time to think up a good answer, I am fine. For me, it is either I have the fear the entire time or I am cool as a cucumber the whole way through. So no advice there, sorry.

I'm actually more comfortable speaking in public than to a stranger.

Yes I used to be but did manage to overcome it purely because i had to do so.I stood with my back to the auditorium trying to swallow the tears before I could start. It felt a nightmare but group of us were being taken on video and it was amazing how much confidence it gives you when you see the video afterward s and it looks much better than you thought or expected. Practise it really well and if you can bring the audience into the talk it helps to keep them interested and uses up some time.

G'day Slevin01, Thank you for your question. I'm not afraid of public speaking. I generally have something I want to say and I get up and say it. Indeed, my fear levels are greater when I have to meet new people 1 to 1. Important things to remember is people don't expect you to be perfect and generally do want you to succeed. All you need to do is make two or three main points and offer something of value. Be well prepared and learn your speech. Join a group like Toastmasters and learn how to speak in public. However, I realise that it is daunting for many people so I have attached sources on how to overcome a fear of public speaking. Thank you for your question. Yes I'm horrible at having to do presentations for classes. If I'm up on a big stage I'm fine, but in front of like 30 other classmates is sooo intimidating, on a stage you don't have to look anyone in the eye and you can concentrate on a certain spot!

There are two ways to deal with the fear of public speaking: 1) The quick fix: Learn techniques to VEIL the nerves. That is to say, even though you're nervous, learn to telegraph confidence. Here is the first in a series of tips to do that. It talks about how to handle the shaky hands: http://www.targetintellect.com/blog/2009/02/public-speaking-fear-stop-the-shaky-hands/ 2) The long term fix: Learn to deal with the root of the fear. Once I finish my blogs about the quick fix, I will be sure to write about the long term approach. For now, look into NLP and Meditation. Both have successfully worked with many of my clients. Best of luck and email me with any questions. Frank

I have had stage fright since I can remember. Then I joined the "Toastmasters Club" in our company. As long as I am prepared and very familiar with the subject, I can speak in public now.
