I think these terms of endearment should be reserved for your spouse or significant other; lest they be viewed as condescending!

In my country we need to be more careful when we call people by these names. We can be easily misunderstood.

I still hear people say those names sometimes. Not lately but they are still around. David Allen Coe would say, "You don't have to call me darling, darling."

i got seriously distressed when someone called me darling on the phone.. i had called to ask when uhal closed nearby and the person answered with "darling" in the answer.. very distressing... though it may come from city life.

Unfortunately, some people now feel these are derogatory terms. I had a checker at a convenience store call me "hon" a few weeks ago. None of them bother me.

in todays society it is wrong to offend someone or demean them by using such works as sweetheart or darling, to be quite honest, i am not sure, we will be able to propagate our species if we continue to be so dang on, politically correct. in the next few hundred years we may just be a footnote to alien travlers when they get here and find our planet empty LMAO

In Texas they still say darlin', lol. I don't say sweetie, but I do use sweetheart.
