CT is a abbreviation of Current Transformer. Basically its one of the type of Instrument transformer. Other Type is PT i.e .Potential Transformer. Now take a look on CT. It is used for measuring the high alternating currents. CT is a device having two windings primary and secondary. Primary is a single conductor carrying high alternating currents and which are getting converted into lower currents and carried by secondary winding through principle of mutual induction. CT has ratios like 100/1, 1000-500/1 and 100/5 and like wise for a particular application.CT made high current measurements possible through meters.As well as its important device in Protection of the electrical system.

CT is current transformer.It's a switch gear installed in power grids.It senses the current for the Relays.CTs are available in the ratio of 50:1,100:1 till 6,000:1.The step down the current so that the relays could sense the fault current by comparing it with the actuated value.It stpes down the current and steps up the voltage.
