  • We just had this discussion last night. AS the boy we adonpted used to have the name Damian. He was 6 when the adoption was taking place. He knew he was getting a new last name and he asked if he could have a new first name. I asked him why he wanted a new name and he said "because Damian is a bad name". I asked him "how is it bad?". He said "it makes him think of bad things". So we let him change his name. I dont think he was meaning evil thinking when he said that. I think he was remembering bad times from when he lived with his bio parents and he wanted to lay that old boy (Damian) to rest and start new with a new name. The answer of your question is people dont usually name their kids based on the meanings anymore. I didnt name my kids based on the meaning and my parents didnt name my siblings and I based on the meaning. One of my friends names her kids middle names based on their totem pole, but their first names are just ones she liked. I think though if people actually knew what it meant and it was bad, they might not name their child that. I dont know if the name Damian really does mean something evil. Allot of people think that because of the movie "Omen". In that movie Damian is the son of Satan (I think?). My husband believes that the name Damian really does mean something evil, when he get home, Ill see if he can show where there is proof of that.
