  • 50 strangers I have no really close family left.
  • my family, hell I don't know the 50 strangers, I hope they have family to save them
  • Blood is thicker than water
  • The 50 strangers. They havent done anything to piss me off yet.
  • I might have to say the 50 strangers. It just feels less selfish to me.
  • As I understand your question the life saving chance occurs simultaneously for my family member and the 50 others. Only then the question of choosing one over the other would arise. As it is a simultaneous occurrence my family member must be the 51st member of the group. There is no way my family member can be isolated from the other 50. Therefore I will save 51 instead of 50. Saving one extra life will be a privilege.
  • My family, how could you live with yourself if you did not.
  • It is really a tough decision, and here is why. Most of my family are saved, and I cannot assume that for any of the fifty strangers. In the end, I would probably choose the strangers if the situation was truly life or death. My family is going to heaven and I don't want to risk a group of strangers going into eternity unprepared.
  • A family member because to me they would be more valuable than 10,000 strangers.
  • I would have to say family as dysfunctional and frelled up as it is I would have to go with blood
  • If it came down to my kids or 50 strangers...are the strangers adults?
  • My family.
  • I would save my family first but at the same time if it were possible for me to go back in to save the 50 strangers I would do that too. Family would come first to me because honestly in a situation of peril I would kind of be thinking only about the safety of my nearest and dearest first. If the situation was such that we were in a place where with my family there were other people around whom I was confident we could all get out I'd try and get them all out at once.
  • My only son and his family first.
  • Normally I would say the strangers, but if it is my child, sorry, I would choose my child.
  • my family ~ above all others they are my raison detre ~ to turn my back on them would be unthinkable. if there were still time & opportunity, id save whomever was closest to me.
  • my family member, of course i lost a child once, a 15 yr old boy, and i know that NOTHING in this world, no matter how altruistic it's intent, is worth the life of that one precious child if i had to choose between him and the entire world population, the world is out of luck
  • I'm surprised that everyone has chosen to save the family member. I can see that everyone has reacted on the natural impulse to save the one you know. Put yourself in the place of the family member. Would you want FIFTY people to die instead of you?
  • It depends on who the family member is. There are some that I would gladly let go off
  • blood comes b4 anything i have a close family so they get priority over strangers no matter what
  • Depends on the family member. No really, it's not the kind of thing you ponder at the time. If you’re the kind of person that can take action then you do what your instincts provide. I would go farther into danger for my own child and grab whoever was alive and drag them out with us, but I can’t think of a situation where you get to clean choose between 50 people and your wife or daughter.
  • i would like to say, I would save the 50 strangers but I dont know if I would be able to. In reality. I would have chose my family member.
  • haha strangers! have you met my family!?
  • I would choose my family, but they would probably want me to choose the strangers.
  • Everyone in the USA already has this choice and has already made the choice. For the cost of the medical care or food we give to one family member, we could easily be supporting 50 starving children in rural Peru, Mexico, Guatemala, Haiti, or many other places. But we won't stop feeding and protecting our families.
  • I would choose a family member (or loved one) over strangers. One reason is because for all I know, all 50 of the strangers could be murderers and rapists, or they might have only a few days to live anyway.
  • Charity begins at home.
  • Not trying to be selfish or mean but it has to be my family member. Blood is thicker than water.
  • I'll be honest, the family member.
  • As hard as it seems, saving the 50 strangers is the right choice than to just save 1. I you save one and let 50 die, that's likened to kill 49 people! How can you live with that? THe family member would probably think the same.
  • a family member of mine chose to save a stranger rather than himself - he died, and the stranger lived. And that was just one stranger. I would rather he hadn't.
  • I'd save the family member. They are my family, and the other people are simply statistics. Sounds awful, I know, but it's the reality of the situation, and I gather that most people would think similarly.
  • 1 family member. haha I only have one I care about. lol If it were another family member, I'd save the strangers. And this would never happen.
