  • it would probably depend on the army
  • Depends on your point limit.
  • they usually count as a hq choice so i would say 2 for average games
  • Depends on both the Army and the Points Limit and Command Tree of a game, although to be honest having more than two is a bad idea. An independent character that's been upgraded enough will cost about the same as a regular squad of infantry from their own army. That squad will have more overall wounds, more shots per turn at maybe even longer range, have heavier weapons if they can be that way inclined, and can capture the objectives if you need scoring units. However, an independant character will most likely have better armor saves and maybe even invulnerable saves, better leadership and other basic stats, have much more power-per-shot weapons (i.e. a plasma pistol) that are not available to the regular troops, and can usually hit harder in close combat, so they're great for bolstering the troops in that game-winning charge. So, if I were you, I'd only take on two medium cost independent characters, unless we're talking about Tau Crisis Suits or Dreadnoughts (or something similar), in which case I'd take four at max. Five if we're playing as Tau, since Broadsides really own up when used right.
