  • Most new-agnostics do try to maintain a spiritual attachment, just in case. That's fine. But don't let anyone (especially family) pressure you into becoming religious again, or becoming an atheist - that would defeat the purpose of questioning in the first place. Just do what you think makes the most sense.
  • It's not abnormal. Many an agnostic may reject all "god-concepts" that have been publicly proposed, yet still believe in some sort of Higher Power.
  • nothing wrong with that!
  • My dictionary says than an agnostic believes that there can be no proof of a God but does not deny the possibility of there being one. So there is no inconsistancy. The fact that you pray means you believe and have faith, you just haven't found the right portal. You might check out livingthequestions.com (not .org) and see if a church in your vicinity is having the program-it's worth attending.
  • Sorry I didn't recognize the name. You seem to be asking the same question more than once. Quit doing that?
  • I think its perfectly fine. To me, religion is simply something that gives you hope, possibly answers, and helps guide you morally. I still like ya! Good luck in your hunt for your fit! :)
  • I hope so as I also do the same thing.
  • I don't know if it's normal because I haven't been in that situation, but why give up having faith in a higher power? If there is one, be persistent in asking him to help you find him. I believe if you do this sincerely and patiently, you'll be pleasantly suprised.
  • Well i was never brought up in any religion and consider myself to be a spiritual person, i think we all have our own God, follow your heart. There is nothing wrong with prayers, they are sending good thoughts and energy.
  • Not really. The fact that you pray to God is a very good sign that you are more of a Monotheist than an Agnostic. Agnostics are not even sure there is a God to whom to pray. If you pray to God then you are a Theist. If you pray to one God then you are probably a Monotheist. If you pray to the one true God of Abraham then you are either Jewish, Christian, or Muslim. Whereever your spiritual journey leads you, keep praying. Prayer is the elevation of the mind and heart to God: + In praise of his glory + In petition for some desired good + In thanksgiving for a good received + In intercession for others before God With love in Christ.
  • Who gives a crap? Do what feels right to you and if someone else doesn't like it, tell them to pray for themselves! Heh!
  • Sure, common definition of an agnostic is a doubter than a non-believer. (this is not a dictionary definition-just my opinion). You appear to be praying for guidance and have not rejected a higher being. An atheist doesn't believe in God and wouldn't pray to Him/Her.
  • Who cares if it is 'normal'. Nowadays 'normal' isn't all that great a thing to be. Pray, be happy, and be good. Be nice if you can.
  • Keep seeking God in your own way. Living and doing right in your life is more important than the building you go to on Sunday, or Saturday, or Friday for that matter.
  • I would say its not particularly abnormal, I have prayed experimentally, but really don't believe that the kind of prayer that we are taught as kids has much of an effect, so I don't do it regularly. There are other kinds of prayer I do have an interest in experimenting with, but do not feel ready. If you are that's great, enjoy your journey, I'm happy for you, and welcome to the club lol!! It's hard for me to determine whether my agnosticism is permanent or transitional like yours.....I too suspect its transitional but can't be sure.
  • I know what you mean, you still feel the presence of benevolent s Yevrum Jeana yapmis o resmi benne urascam yerim seni, and I can't translate it.
  • Technically, an agnostic would not pray to any god. An agnostic can believe in a god, but knows absolutely nothing about it. Praying implies that you believe your god listens to you or perhaps answers your prayers. So, this isn't normal by the technical defitition, but most people who call themselves agnostic theists still pray, so I would say that it is normal enough.
  • I call myself an enlighten agnostic. SO here goes... I believe that there are powers in and out of the universe that are far greater than me or any mortal being, sentient or otherwise. I believe that any deity that requires worship has been saddled with an ego by man. I believe that to define the powers that be is to limit them to that definition and if there is one thing I am sure of it is that they are limitless. Furthermore, we pitiful being are incapable of understanding the powers, mush less define them. As for morality in this society, it is between us and society. We should behave properly and do whats right because IT IS right and not for fear of a deity nor the promise of an afterlife which also can't be defined or comprehended by us.
  • Agnosticism is taken from the Greek word "gnosis" meaning Knowledge so, "Agnostic" Lack of knowledge or "not knowable" the word is used on matters other than religious as well. My view is that; for a person growing up in a family/environment with a certain ideology, or behaviour s/he will definitely adopt at least a few elements of the elders' behaviour/ideology but the questions come out after deep thinking, & may finally lead to "reasonable" doubts (either for or against religion). It is a natural human behaviour to seek help & relief (e.g. pray) during stressful situations as they feel weak & helpless & humble & the human search for immortality "afterlife"(that's one reason why religion came into bieng in the first place). but my view of agnosticism (Human inablility to prove or disprove the existence of God/s through measurable means) is the most reasonable of all (in my opinion of course). Religion was meant to be a dogma "a system of ethics & beliefs about unexplained phenomena" but if you consider "proving" it by evidence, you could fail (that's why theory of relativity was proposed by Einstien not buddha!) & that's why you find some serious religious inconsistencies with science if you take any sacred book literally but nonethless, religion still serves as a strong source for ethical & moral belifs of many people. so far Evolution is the most accurate & close to logic explanation for our origins. Occam's Razor (+) evolution (=) logical (-) religion (=) hell (+) Pascal's Wager (+) "question of life after death" (=) confusion & uncertainty (=) agnosticism/atheism. so for me, religion is a source of hope, inspiration & moral guidance. I pray to cheer up & if you are a "new agnostic" with lots of religious oddities in mind than your praying frequency may probably fade away with time as you become more "agnostic". (old habits won't go away so fast). Sorry that this answer looks like an article, but to talk about things of such significance, this is just the beginning!
  • Its normal because you like many other people know that everything in the bible cannot be true but on the other hand you are still worried and want to believe.
  • Try out different reliogons maybe you will find the answer
  • You can be an Agnostic Theist in which The knowing of a God is beyond our knowledge, but you believe in one. Hope I helped!
  • As long as you still question the existence of god, and your prayers are "just in case." You'll know that you aren't agnostic if you decide to believe in some religion or system.
  • read HIS WORD and keep praying..HE will send HIS Spirit for a Spiritual Fit if HE knows u long for this in an earnest way..I can vouch for this personally..
  • Your honesty, with us and with yourself, is refreshing. Keep that honesty. It will help lead you to the true path. Jesus said, "Ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened." Keep asking, seeking and knocking.
  • I think you should remain open to questions. If you don't question, you won't receive answers. Being Agnostic does not exclude spirituality, it simply means you're prepared to ask questions and aqcuire knowledge before taking any definite position. As an Agnostic you acknowledge that you don't know any of the great questions. This doesn't mean you can't look for answers.
  • * Agnostic theism (also called "religious" or "spiritual agnosticism") —the view of those who do not claim to know of the existence of any deity, but still believe in such an existence.
  • I declare that you can believe whatever you like as it's a personal matter. If anyone questions your decisions, throw a pie in their face.
  • I would say that you are not agnostic, because you believe in a God enough to pray. I would say you are a theist: one who believes there is some kind of Higher Power, but is not certain of the nature of that Power.
  • yes, its normal...been there, as lots of biblical characters were in weakness of faith.. when ur praying, ask HIM to help u "see the light", "know the WAY"...this is when HE sends the HELPER,COMFORTER,(Holy Spirit, a part of HIMSELF) when HE knows we are asking in Earnest for Guidance....I did...may HE bless u....
  • its certainly normal for an agnostic, it just tells people that you are open to new ideas
  • Old habits (an imaginary friends) die hard. It's not a question of declaring oneself anything though. There are no meetings, membership clubs or sign-on bonuses. Just let your mind be your guide. Don't let others' fear and silliness sway you. +5
  • No, it's not normal. Agnostics are people who are not sure of the existence of a god or gods. If you pray to a god while you're shopping around for another, it clearly means that you believe in one or more so you're obviously not agnostic
