Jehovah "set up a sign for Cain" to prevent his being killed, but the record does not say that this sign or mark was placed on Cain's person in any way.

The "sign" likely consisted of God's solemn decree itself, known and observed by others.
Turn in your Bible to Genesis 4:10-15; compare vs 24 where that decree is referred to by Lamech.

Cain went into banishment in "the land of Fugitiveness to the east of Eden," taking with him his wife, an anonymous daughter of Adam and Eve. (Ge 4:16, 17; compare 5:4, also the much later example of Abraham's marriage to his half sister Sarah, Ge 20:12.)

Following the birth of his son Enoch, Cain "engaged in building a city," naming it for his son.

It was not a "mark" "on" Cain; it was a "sign" "for" Cain. I happen to be a full-time Bible translator, have taught both Hebrew and Greek and not long ago corrected the manuscript for the Ukrainian Bible Society, so everything I'm telling you I could prove if need be with all kinds of documentation.

Cain feared that at some time in the future, a brother would be born to Adam and Eve who would hunt him down and punish him with death for murdering Abel. God promised that that wouldn't happen. Cain, not surprisingly, had trouble believing that God would be that gracious. To convince Cain that God meant it and could do it, God gave Cain a sign. We don't know what it was. Maybe water flew uphill or the sun turned blue or a force-field shimmered around him. But it was no sort of mark on Cain's body, and most certainly was not a change in his skin color.

There was some kind of human like animal here roaming this earth before God made Adam and Eve. Why else would God put a guard at the entrance to the garden of eden? If nobody was here but Adam and Eve when he bannished them from the garden He would not have needed a guard. Only thing these human like creatures did not have a soul. When cain took his wife out of these creatures all the offspring from cain had souls. The ones that were left died out like the neanderthals did. I think the mark on Cain is the same mark as the mark of the beast.

I have written a book on this subject and I can prove scripturally that there is a common link between the mark of Cain and the mark of the beast. This is a deep study only for serious Bible students. Write me at:

I was always taught that if the mark of Cain was a change in skin color, then it would unquestionably have to be white (albino). It has been proven that the garden of Eden is located in Africa and that Eve was black. Therefore it goes to reason that Adam was also black. However, I'm not convinced that the mark on Cain had anything to do with his skin color at all. I believe it was not so much a "physical" mark, as it was a spritual one.

Nobody knows what the mark was, but I believe it had something to do with the mark of the beast. I also believe that Cain took his wife from the human like people that live before and during the time that God created Adam and Eve. If you look in the linage of Cain you will find that Lamech (Cain's great grandson) killed Cain and was to be punished 70 and 7 fold times. Also if you look you will see that people was experts in iron and brass and this was only about 6 or 7 generations from Adam. Now someone tell me that there was not some form of human like creatures here at the time of the creation of Adam and Eve. Only thing is: they didn't have a soul at that time. Only after God breathe into Adam's nostrils did man become a living soul.

Since the Bible doesn't say, I assume He tattooed an image of the Flying Spaghetti Monster onto Cain's forehead.

The Bible does not say. I do believe it was a physical mark as so that people would know at a glance not harm Cain.

Discussing the bible can often simply be a support of your own personal prejudices. As easily noted by the above misstatements and
    pseudo interpretations.

The sign that God left on Cain or the “mark” has commonly been known as his skin and features being that of a negro or arab.

It is equally equated with that of arab/negro lineage and the self imposed false & spurious anguish of negros/arabs.

this is not an educated answer just a guess my idea is seeing that he killed his brother would that not make him a fearsom killer to all other creatures just like man is today to all other animals today i mean animals fear man because we hunt and kill them today if i was a animal incapable of making my own tools and i see a man making spears knives slingshots and see how he used them to kill others in my group i would run aswell even a lion runs from man with a spear

Because it was his first offense, God did not send him to the Paradise Penitentiary. Instead he gave Cain 25 years probation and Community Service....but then realized that there was no community he could serve, so he stamped on Cain his probation documents in some form of microchip.... (this is a silly joke, not to be taken seriously)
