Yes, I did. After smoking for over 10 years, I successfully quit. I didn't smoke for over two years. I accomplished it cold turkey. Unfortunately, one day my ex threw me in the floor, punched me three times in the head, and then took a bunch of pills, etc "trying" to commit suicide. I spent the evening in the ER taking care of him. The next day, he berated me for not being happy enough that he was alive. I started smoking again that day. I haven't been able to quit since, either.

I don't really belive in quiting but I do stop frequently, here's the thing I'll smoke for like a week and stop for two or three etc. the duration always changes but I don't more than I do. This has been going on for a long, long time, Does this make sense? Does that count?

No. My longest stretch was 6 months and I'd made the mistake of lighting up a Cohiba cigar at a party. I have, however, cut down considerably to about 5 per day from about a pack (25). Yes, 25, we have 25 packs in Canada.

The only way to really quit is to just decide that it is not only something you "have" to do but something that you really WANT to do. But if you don't honestly want to quit. I just decided one day that I didn't want to do it anymore. SO I stoped and now I have finnaly reached the oint to where I can smoke one if I want to and then not feel the urge again for months. its great.

I smoked for 24 years and quit on Jan 2nd 2006 (Makes it almost a full year for me). I did it with the Nicoderm CQ steps though. I tried a hundred times going "cold turkey" only to find out I became satan in the making. There were times I would have robbed a store just to get a smoke (really). Nicoderm worked for me (without sounding like a spokesperson) - I did get cravings however but they only lasted a few minutes & after a while the cravings went from 5 minutes to 5 seconds. After about 3 months I didn't need the patch anymore. I have no problem being around smokers but I have noticed though that the smoke irritates me way more than it did when I first quit - anyone know why this could be?

First, like Jeremy said, you have to be ready to quit. I was a smoker for over 30 years and quit 3 1/2 years ago. My doctor prescribed Wellbutrin. I took one a day for two weeks while still smoking, then bumped it up to 2 a day and made a game of it, trying to go longer and longer each day before my first cigarette of the day. The first day I made it till 6:30, the second day I didn't smoke until 8:30, the next day it was 11:00, 1:00 pm the next and on the fifth day 4 pm. I said to myself, "If I cna go without one this long, I can put them away forever." I haven't even had a desire for them since. I made it easier than any of my previous attempts.

My grandma smoked for like 20 years. She quit with Nicorette gum. She just decided one day it was nasty and just never picked one up again.

I quit on 11th November 2008, so not that long ago. Did it with nicotine patches. Don't even want one now! Smoked 60 a day for 19 years.
