Dean Koontz - The Taking The rain keeps Molly Sloan indoors so she works on her book that she hopes to complete soon. However, she observes the oddity of the torrent pouring at over seven inches an hour and it has luminescent glow as if snow was falling. On her porch is a horde of coyotes acting as if they fear what is out there but they are friendly towards Molly. Her husband Neil awakens from a nightmare and joins her. From TV they learn that the storm is worldwide. The Sloans see the probable cause when an UFO hovers in the sky and weird looking fungus and spores multiply at a geometric Malthusian rate. People vanish into the ground or levitate into the air; corpses walk and decapitated heads talk. Special dogs congregate around the beleaguered couple as Molly and Neil search the nearby town for children of parents who disappeared. They believe that the children and their guardians cannot be touched. In less than thirty-six hours the world that the Sloans knew is gone and both wonder how the ETs will deal with the survivors.

Anything by a scottish man called David Shrigley. Very very dark but funny, he has a web site... www.davidshrigley.com

I can think of David Lynch's films. He has given movie goers quite a few WTF moments in "Blue Velvet" and "Wild at Heart". I have yet to see "Mullholland Drive".
-
A Clockwork Orange
-
clockwork orange was pretty strange
-
Mulholland Drive, it's a film that I thought about for a long, long time after watching it. I'm still not sure what it is about, even after watching the DVD several times.

The ring had to be the strangest I have ever seen.
-
Make them die slowly. Gross, ross, gross...taken off the market years ago I believe.
-
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) was also pretty strange. At that time if you heard Jim Carrey was in it, you expected funny, not ....starnge is the only word I can come up with. Very.
-
David Lynch's "Eraserhead' - BY FAR the strangest.
-
Drowning by numbers. Actually, anything by Peter Greenway was pretty strange.
-
the fountain didnt make much sense to me. idk if it was that 'strange' though. Pan's Labrynth was also pretty wierd, but it made sense.
-
Just for the heck of it...."Zardoz" staring Sean Connery. It is strange. From IMDB..."Future dystopian world; giant flying head; false religion. 'Nuff said"

In film class at college, there was a surreal movie that was very violent. Old black and white, no sound. I can't remember the name of it. Sorry. I do remember one scene where they opened a guys eye, and sliced his eyeball with a straight-razor... I'm sure it was an effect, but it was a VERY good one! I DID say it was violent, huh? 8-P

"Greaser's Palace" By Robert Downey (Senior). A telling of the story of Jesus set in the old west. Very surreal and bizarre, but funny too. A close second is "The Magic Christian". I love the movie, but it is just so.... weird.
-
Blue Velvet. It's just a weird story.
-
It was a foreign film (Pasolini, I think) highlighting sadistic acts at a banquet - think ground glass in food, and other sharp objects, etc. I couldn't even stay past the middle.
-
Clockwork Orange! Mr Bill
-
Natural Born Killers
-
Howard the Duck

I think the name of it was FLY. It was only about 20 mins. long and it was about a fly that would spy on people. Thats about all I can rember. Does anyone know what movie I am talking about? It was about 15 yrs. ago or so.

In America we tend to see things quite plain, predictable and simple. European art movies are too complex for us to understand. I love Pasolini and Fellini. What is yours?
-
I think "Freddy Got Fingered" would fit.
-
"Sin City" with its constant graphic, sick, twisted, extreme violence and murder, was the strangest movie that I could only watch a few minutes.
