- Is Larry maybe British and Yeahwell...it'sallgood maybe North American? I, too, have always called them (and heard them call) "snickers," although I seem to recall hearing the word "sniggers," too, in a British accent. (I've also always called them "chocolate bars," which from what I've heard is not allowed in Britain because of strict rules regarding chocolate classification.)

- He already provided us with the bible, which answers this question for you. His right to govern man came into question, back when Adam and Eve disobeyed him.
  Also later on in the book of Job, Satan the Devil brought into play all of mankind's intergrity to God when he said that only serve him, because of what he can give them. Study the bible, and you will see that God has provided a solution that will soon end mankind's sufferring one day.

- Momma Bear--when one is put in place of another and speaks from the heart it is God's attempt to answer you. However, in order for you to discern the truth you need to have prayer. But I understand what you mean--when you say it is a question I would ask him if I could---thing is you can now. And those who have spent time in prayer w/ God will all say pain and suffering has its place. Those who endure--become stronger.

- Thanks Tony, I understand where you're coming from and your explanation here is very kind. I do appreciate the grace with which you came back here and I appreciate those who speak from their hearts.
  I still stand with my response though. When I read this question, I understood it to mean 'what would I ask God if I met God face to face?' I wouldn't have answered this question, if I had realized that people would try to speak for God. This is not a question that I would ask 'people'. It is a question that I would ask God, if I met God and could get an answer directly from God. Unfiltered and uncontaminated, so to speak.
  I am not trying to be critical when I say this, but part of my issue with your comment is, here when you say "when one is put in place of another and speaks from the heart it is God's attempt to answer you."
  No one is put in place of another and there is no need for anyone here to attempt to answer for God.

- See, if I wanted another human being to help me understand, then I would ask another human being.
  Another issue with your comment is when you say "in order for you to discern the truth you need to have prayer." and then you say this "And those who have spent time in prayer w/ God will all say pain and suffering has its place."
  These two statements sound a lot to me like you are assuming that I have NOT spent a lot of time in prayer, which is simply thoughtless to say the least.

- Thanks for your response MB. I apologize if I read as if I was assuming you dont have a prayer life. That was not the intent of my statement. I cannot help anyone understand pain and suffering in the place of God. Because we all are on the same journey w/ different experiences. Faith is all I can bring to the table--to encourage. We all suffer---in one form or another. However sometimes needlessly. I think we already know the answers to most difficult questions--just afraid to trust in the truth.

I could picture a big movie screen, and God replaying scenes, where he was there, like an accident that was going to happen, that you never knew about, or things like that lol! The Christian Bible follows the example of the Septuagint which used KYRIOS in the OT to render the Tetragrammaton, the Divine Name. And in the NT, Kyrios was used exclusively. Yahweh is not in the original GK....

  Smurphy, God has said in the book of Isaiah that though our sins be red as scarlet, they shall be made white as snow; he has also said that he will throw our sins as far as the east is from the west...if God can forgive us in Jesus, then you can forgive yourself. WHen you ask him for forgiveness in christ, he grants it. If you come back later and ask "Lord about that sin..." he will say "What sin?" He will have forgotten it, because Jesus has paid it. If you have a bill that was late, and someone pays it for you, you don't go back a week later and say "About that bill...: the person at the counter will say..."It's paid" and then you go home and relax...

- Singwell: I am well aware of that, I know it and I believe it but sometimes the weight of the sin is so heavy and you just can't help ask yourself "How?" and sometimes people treat that sin as a security blanket (of sorts) god you can have everything but I know (although they do know) you can't forgive me for this so I'm going to keep it and seen as I'm not getting forgiven for this I can still mess up in this way. AND maybe maybe all of that is the devil... or maybe its just human instinct, God gave us free will so that we could question him so that we could really believe for ourselves. Another thing, I'm not necessarily saying this for me... I went to confession a week ago. A past me maybe... a me that still comes out and plays devil's advocate but...

- questioning is ok. and yes, sometimes we do have reason to think again of what we have done (eg if someone did something criminal, they might get caught for it and have to go to jail) but each time it happens, we have to go back to the Bible, which is God's word to us, and read what God says, claiming it for ourselves. Jesus said "I have come to give you life and give it in all its fulness" John 10:10. when the fear comes, we have to say verses like these out loud and say, "God, I believe this. I am going forward in victory, knowing that Jesus has set me free from sin and guilt." Blessings....you have a seeker's heart.

  I may not agree with everyones belief system but I do respect their right to it, so long as they aren't inclined to shove it down the throats of others as with the Crusades or these damned Muslim Extremists.
  I don't have all the answers, so I'm reasonably certain that none of us other mere mortals can claim to either.
  I would however like to have some faith in the thought that things both good and bad happen for some Divine reason that make it all "right" in the end.
  Hopefully a little bit of Faith in that regard is enough.

- Evidence is in the pudding. I don't make up answers to things---there are so many who find it difficult to believe in a divine being b/c they can't see or have justification. When someone is born w/ a defect---blame God? There was a reason for it--and for us in the medical field who blessed w/ the intellect to correct it proves we are designs for purpose not happenstance.

- Well my answer is not an attack on faith, or an attempt to undermine anyone's right to their opinion, or a denial of the existence of God... it's just pointing out that if this particular feature is considered to be "intelligently designed", it's got a lot of explaining to do. There's quite a few things like this in nature -- and those who argue for Intelligent Design need to account for them if they are going to preserve credibility for that viewpoint.

If I observe anomally I see reason---not mistakes. - Okay, after much research. SB made a valid point, yet it depends on how we look at it. And in comparison to what other design. The human eye has a blind spot due the position of the optic nerve head so the small area of the retina cant respond to light. We dont notice it because must have a balance to be blessed with two eyes which conteracts the blind spots effects.

- In comparison to the eyes of an octopus which has the connection of the optic nerve beind the retina. I am no expert but I do believe octopus lives in an environment conducive to the need. Human eyes are sensitive yet need more acutity in our environment. So the the experts say our eyes are designed which seems to be a flaw yet it has a greater purpose.

- The human eye has a greater need for nurtrients. The design does provide a greater good--where it provides a rich supply of blood in front and back of the retinas along with the choroid layers. This helps in natural repairs of the eye.

- I agree with Marcus, I also was offended by this answer. People have no idea how deeply some of us love our Heavenly Father. Some have no idea how reverently we speak of Him. Some have no idea how much He means to us and how much we place even the most simple of life's problems we place in His hand. It continues to amaze me how when someone uses the word "perverted" to describe an immoral sexual act, we get bombarded with false accusations and name calling, but if someone disrespects our God, we are supposed to just be quiet and accept it.

I am totally baffled that it would surprise anyone that some were offended by this. How in the world could people's offense to this be a surprise? It doesn't surprise me at all. It also doesn't surprise me that many were not. What's the big deal that people are expressing their sense of being offended? I don't get it. No one should be surprised at the offense taken by this. There are very religious people in this world. A lot of them will speak up when they are offended. How is that surprising? Should we call CNN? I think what you were thinking about was the concept that "everything that BEGINS TO EXIST has a cause( or a beginning)". Since God did not begin to exist, he has no cause, he has just always been. He is infinite. I have never heard of the concept that everything has a beginning...

This is an outstanding question and I have thought about it for some time and can think of nothing that I would ask God.

My reflex answer might be,"How long O Jehovah, how long"? Like David asked in the thirteenth Psalm, or Isaiah asked in chapter 6 of the Book of Isaiah. I have the benefits of their examples of longsuffering, so I can avoid asking "How Long", knowing that my impatience here might show a lack of appreciation, or worse, a lack of faith.
I really feel no need to ask anything else of God, since I am still working through all of what he has already revealed to us in his Word.
I am happy with that.

- I know you didn't mean harm so there's no trouble on my end. I'm just a big proponent that we have to keep in mind that man wrote the bible and so it's good to keep an open mind, in case man made any errors in scribe or translation over the years. You shouldn't apologize for what you truly believe, but it's always good to preface the unproven with "I believe". Just my opinion :)

  And Intheword, Romans 8:28 says "a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law." So being a good person, or just doing your best is not going to get you a ticket to heaven. Only faith will! (:

- Well, things do happen for a reason. God supplies our need if we trust and believe in Him. Again, this is our NEED, not our wants. We are a spoiled generation. You didn't ask for your car to be backed into and I don't know if it was able to be driven but God gave us legs to walk. Be thankful you have a car. Some don't. Be thankful it was just backed into because you could have been hurt and in the hospital and out of work several weeks. Maybe you just needed a reminder to be thankful and a little fender bender was that reminder. Keep in mind. . . God is in control. He didn't say our life would be without complications. God loves us so much and is watching over us. A young woman testified in church the other week and she was brutally raped. She didn't ask why. She thanked God for giving her a way to escape.
