  • Perhaps your questions are better than your answers? My experience has been just the reverse.
  • There really is no balance as it is different for everyone. I find that it really all depends on when you ask and answer and how many of your friends check out your postings as to where you will excel in. I find my friends find my questions easier then my answers so my point average is higher than my answers. A lot of great answers do not get seen by as many see questions as so many others answer and some will slip by many.
  • If a question gets a ton of answers most people won't bother going through all the answers if they find a good one. The indvidual question therefore gets more attenton than the individual answers. Also answers are often subject to opinion so people can disagree with them whereas a question usually does not indicate an opinion.
  • Think of it in terms of how many people see your answer. If you're answering questions that soon go by the wayside, only 1 or 2 people will see them. If you ask a decent question, you can get a dozen answers, and each time someone answers, it pops back up on to the main page. For me, I usually get an average of 10 points per question, and 4 points per answer.
  • It's pretty simple. The questions are just more public. Everyone on the homepage can see them, and most people give points to questions just because they answered them. Many people just skip over answers however. I'm pretty sure a decent size fraction of my 13,000 answers have never been read by anyone but me.
  • It's not always that way as it depends on what you are asking and what you are answering. It's easy to see by your answers the reason why you aren't getting many points for them if at all. It's because you are answering very specific questions, of use or interest to one person, the person that asked it. No one else is looking down the list of answers because there are so few people who know or care about those subjects. But that happens when you answer exacting questions. Just learn to live with it, that the people who ask those questions often don't even know about the points and don't care since all they want is this one thing and never stick around. But some of your questions have been rather generic, and many people can answer them as they are about broad subjects. If you to asked "Thread pitch and diameter on a typical metric power steering line for a gm product" you might not get even one answer. But if you ask "Why is Canadian beer better" well, people will come and stick up for their beer lol! So, if you are concerned about points, either step up and answer questions better or answer questions where people are flocking to. Or don't worry about it and just try to help people the best you can.
