  • I would say that if you are truly compassionate, even though you have a hard time with love as an emotion, you have discovered and possess real love within you. You have gone to the core of what love is - not primarily an emotion, but a motivating force that drives us to do what is best for others.
  • I would say that compassion is easier for people to experience because it is generally not so intimately felt as love. Compassion is something that is usually given out from yourself, whereas love is also this PLUS opening yourself up to being loved back. This is where things can get dicey, because opening yourself up to be loved involves risk. Compassion generally doesn't involve that much personal risk, as you control the flow of it from you. Love, on the other hand, is not something under conscious control and certainly not love received from someone. This lack of control over something can make some people uncomfortable and we tend to shy away from that which makes us uncomfortable. All us this is perfectly natural, as people develop parts of their personality at different times throughout their lives and people also tend to integrate these traits differently. I think we should all strive for perfect love, love of ourselves and love for others that is not dependent upon anything other than that which is loved. But until then, there's certainly nothing wrong with just compassion!
