I see a lot of that even from long time users. Obvious duplicates. I can't be bothered to flag them any more as my flags usually get rejected for some reason.

OMG! Yes, please, please, please, please! That is the most annoying thing. These questions are not crack, people. You don't have to snap at them just because they're there. It's almost as if they're just answering every question on the homepage for the points.
-
Or why is the sky blue?. . .yeah, that's original. I'm with you MG!

I do my best. Some questions that you think have been asked haven't (or least I can't find them). I agree with the 'don't encourage them' bit, though.

Oh man, I had to jump off of this train before I derailed it. I HATE duplicate questions, but no one wants to listen or even gives a flying you-know-what about it. It's irritating. But, I 100,000,000% agree with you. Stop the duplicates, either by flagging them or not encouraging them by answering all of them. I like to link each question to each other in an answer- to get the point across.

Sometimes I'm amazed by the duplicates I find. Find a question you think, "That HAS to be a dupe", and it IS... Then you find 10-15 OTHER dupes that haven't been flagged. Ridiculous!

I disagree with you. You are saying just because you've answered it once long ago, and seen it asked multiple times since, we should simply stop asking it? Why? Where's the harm? Such questions are not meant to be unique/profound/special. They are meant to be what they are..simple, straightforward and current. Just don't answer it. Others who do may have answered before, but differently..or perhaps even some oldtimers have never answered and want to do so. I don't care if something has been asked a zillion times or not..it doesn't bother me at all. I don't understand why it should bother anyone else. Happy Thursday! :) ((hugs)) How are the new wheels doing?

I'm with you on this. Lately it's one of the things I am struggling to keep up with. There are so many duplicates. Some are the same as were asked just the day before and that one was a duplicate as well. If you haven't answered it, go ahead and answer but please flag them so they will get moved soon. And they aren't just duplicates, they are often in the wrong place, too. So be sure that you aren't flagging them for the wrong thing and make sure that the original is in the right spot, too. That's something else I've noticed, that many of the older questions are no longer in the right category. So you could get 10 points for doing this great service to the website.

I think the people answering them are just answering everything on the homepage for the points, whether or not they've already gotten points for answering "that question" before. I'm with you on this one.

I think we should stop uprating duplicate questions. I believe that's the primary motivation of those who deliberately post duplicate questions like "Grab the nearest book..." We can't stop people from answering duplicate questions, because some people here don't know that they've already been asked. But those of us who know could stop giving points to such questions. ... In the end, we really can't tell people what to do and what not to do. It's not against the rules to answer duplicate questions.

Yes, I will try my best to help fix this.:)
