Ours is heading toward 10 grand thanks to my husband's job closing, numerous car repairs, medical bills, and trying to survive without a job until he found a new job. We don't spend more than we earn. We just had a lot of bad luck.

I use my credit card almost exclusively and purchase @ $400-$1500 worth of services and merchandise monthly. After I send in my payment, I owe them NOTHING. That's the secret-don't spend more than you have. +5 for an interesting question

We purchase gas with a card that gives us 5% back and we pay it off every month. Therefore we gain money every month by using a credit card for something we would have to buy anyways. Other than that we don't have any credit card debt. We are firm believers in "If you don't have the cash to pay for it, don't buy it"
