Depends on the religion really. To Protestants, which I am, it is not the water or the oil that is holy, but the setting it apart for a special purpose. So, when my husband anoints the sick, he uses oil specially put aside for that purpose. If he dropped the bottle and broke it, God would not zap him with lightning, as the oil is oil. It is the purpose that is holy, not the thing itself.

NO. It has to be water. If water cannot be had, in case of necessity or in any case, no other liquid can be used, and the baptism cannot be given.
