  • Very, very unlikely. It is not even legal everywhere for medicinal purposes.
  • in some places its already legal. its only a matter of time.
  • Yes it is very possible. There is even a group called LEAP(Law Enforcement Against Prohibition). The United States spends over 69 Billion dollars on the so called "war on drugs" but it's not working. Legalizing drugs would allow us to regulate them and tax them. This means we would be able to regulate the quality and tax the drugs and use the money to provide treatment to all those addicts that want help but can't afford it. Money could also be used for drug prevention programs so kids don't start using. The crime rate would go down because most crime today is drug related.
  • Yes, marijuana is a very weak drug...less harmful than common drugs such as Alcohol. I can definitely see this being a legal drug in the near future.
  • There's always a chance. But thankfully it will probably never happen.
  • I have no idea whether it has much of a chance, but I definitely believe it should be decriminalized.
  • i hope so
  • There is a chance but its pretty small, not very many legislators in the federal government are too open to the idea.
  • Considering that the US government is against new for old needle clinics to prevent the spread of HIV through used drug needles, I'd say that legalising any sort of drug is very low on their list of priorities.
  • No, We have the religious right in this country who will always oppose it. They vote. Stoners don't!
  • Once the government finds a way to tax it, but then it will get banned because of the second hand smoke :-)
  • No chance at all. Not one in a billion. Legalizing pot would have be legalized by the feds and then each state. California is having a problem with their medical marijuana law right now. The courts don't know which law should take precedence, the state law allowing meical pot or the federal ban on growing and producing pot. Let's pretend the courts stated the federal law was king: The House of Reps Democrats have to appear to be center of the road. If they legalize (or even de-criminalize) pot, the voters will see them as too liberal and they will lose power. The House of Reps Republicans have to appear to be right of center and being tough on crime is a good thing. Middle America hates drugs and if the Republicans legalize or decriminalize pot it they will appear weak and gain power back. If thye pull the "rights" card to satisfy the libertarians they will gain a small % of votes and lose the middle of the road vote, again, losing power. The Senate is just never going to do it. Period. The Pres has to sign the bill... have to wait to at least 2008 for that one.
  • Its already legal in parts of Colorado. and more and more studies are showing that there are positive side to the use of Mary-Jane. I feel it would be good to legalize it...besides there are more deaths each year from alcohol than drugs and its perfectly fine to drink. But maybe there should be an age limit for buying pot as well.....
  • Hopefully, people are starting to realize that it is a lot less harmful then alcohol.
  • Prohibition is a failed system, will they realize it soon - maybe. How can you put someone who grows a plant into jail with murderers and rapists? U.S. government decided it knew what we should put in our bodies, so they outlawed it. That right there is unnerving to me. No politician I have ever met should make a decision like that for me. In 1937 the U.S. Marihuana Tax Act was created to make marijuana disappear through making it illegal to have without a tax stamp but no one could acquire the tax stamp due to the fact you would be incriminating yourself. It was enacted on the grounds that cannabis caused "murder, insanity and death" After this was found to be unconstitutional in 1969 due to its violation of our fifth amendment right our congress passed the Controlled Substances Act. -So we have the war on drugs(they thought the name prohibition wouldn't work anymore). Government doesn't think it can effectively tax the product so they outlaw it. To make a profit and provide jobs, the DEA and ONDCP and many other anti-marijuana groups are given our tax dollars to fight a war against our own citizens. • The Color Green • Law Enforcement Against Prohibition(LEAP)
  • not as long as this nation is being run by a bunch of self righteous hypocrites...ban cigaretts and alcohol.as many doctors will tell you..they are the real killers..goverment has told america the great lie concerning this drug..and only those who are religious fanatics oppose its legalization..but eventually the truth will come to light..and i'd love to see the look on some of their faces when it does...so continue to kill with your cigarettes and liquor..and deny the safeness of this harmless and beneficial drug..how ignorant our government has turned out to be
  • I don’t think so, even though I wish they would. They call marijuana the gateway drug to other drugs so I don’t think they would like to open the gate.
  • yes join www.norml.com. Marijuana prohibition began because of racism , lobbying as well as self gain. To this day pharmacuitical , industrial as well as government paid lobbying against marijuana takes place almost all the time. Nowadays we even have a Drug Czar who is upheld by laws to do everything in his power to combat marijuana (lies , lies , half truths ex. Marijuana is associated with lung cancer - Fact: Marijuana is associated with lung cancer but not in a negative way , tetrahydrocannabinol as well as dbm two extremely beneficial cannabinoids in marijuana prevent lung cancer.) So yes its associated with lung cancer by preventing it. In the long run pharmaceutical lobbying and all other lobbying factions make the government more money than if they made it illegal. Maybe theyre not bribing them but they're giving them a free vacation to the Caribbean if you vote no on bill so and so mr congressman. But yes I beleive in the near future marijuana will be legalized because its shown to help with symptoms of over 140 illnesses and diseases. Also U.N. has decided to take into account a lot of pro marijuana lobbying that is taking place soon in 09 keep track at norml.com or www.marijuanapolicyproject.com As well as much of the world is decriminalizing and the media is exposing some of the Drug Czar's lies.
  • this shit better be leagal i bet anyone couldnt aggre going to work ripped and goin to school blazed. why go to high school whn you can go to school high
  • I thought so about 10 years ago and then again when Canada decriminalized it. I wish because it isn't fair when drug test search if you have broken down metabolites in your system proving you did the drug 48 hours ago or further but not that you are under any effect of the drug now. When someone is given a breathalyzer at work if they don't exceed a certain level they are either ok to go back to work or they are monitored to see if the level decreases (making sure the drinking wasn't done on the job). If someone is smoking out at work and smashes your face in with a forklift and they havn't smoked for let's say 2 months before that day. They can and will pass all drug test for up to 48 hours after smoking first began. It's an invasion of privacy to test for what has been done and not what is in effect now. The only problem is that we as workers have to agree to those terms in order to get certain jobs. I say pot smokers are more dependable workers because they still go to work when they can and get paid less because they settle for lower jobs without drug tests. I never woke up hung over from smoking a joint after work. Has anyone ever woke up with a hang over from drinking after work? I wont hold my breath since it was a conspiracy based on racism and profiting in the 1930's I think the last bill was passed on 1937 nov. 2 based on a lie that is even transcripted and still it's illegal? Obviously someone bigger than knowledge gained by any child growing up learning about government and the way the world works is controlling us, and for what, God only knows.
