Help answer this question below.
Don't think about it!
It will simply make you cry.
Just one example: For the 1 trillion dollars we've already dumped into Iraq, we could have bought 5 MILLION new houses.
Imagine what the housing market would be like under that scenario....
Oh, that's right...*don't* think about it.
We could give adequate health care and needed medication to every human being on the planet.
It's like some kind of Patriarchal Monopoly game, but it's not like we weren't warned. From President Eisenhower's Farewell Address to the Nation, 1/17/61:
"As we peer into society's future, we – you and I, and our government – must avoid the impulse to live only for today, plundering for, for our own ease and convenience, the precious resources of tomorrow. We cannot mortgage the material assets of our grandchildren without asking the loss also of their political and spiritual heritage. We want democracy to survive for all generations to come, not to become the insolvent phantom of tomorrow."
There is nothing we can do about the over spending but dream on what good could be done with that amount of money.
Let's keep it domestically, we could: provide excellent health care for all US citizens, stop the foreclosures so people don't loose their homes and decent care and medical assistance for our war veterans. Those three would be my priorities as it is said "it is free to dream".
Thanks for an excellent and positive question.
Damn right..... I could have bought a fantastic conservatory. Underfloor heating, electric blinds you name it!
i'm going to say something which is rarely said,BUSH HAS GOT A POINT if they dont bail out wall street soon the world economic crisis will get a hell of a lot worse. So it has to be done and they can worry about paying it back when the economy starts growing again, the credit crunch started in the u.s (i dont want to play the blame game but it's true) and the u.s is the only country with the resources to stop it.
Yes..well, it's like this. We've been captured by these pirates whose goals, aspirations and focus had nothing to do with benefitting "we the people". It had to do with greed, arrogance, a touch of evil..powerhungry, above the law, screw the law, destroy the law people. So that's the best they could do..which was tragic of course. Somehow they conned some of us into voting for them....twice. This is our reward. You make your bed you lie in it..of course some of us didn't make that dam* bed and we're still forced, kicking and screaming, to lie in it. Very sad. Another $700Billion bailout they're trying to force down our throats..however, this time I think no one will roll over..Congress is finally exerting oversight..asking a lot of questions. These guys..so arrogant..a 3-page outline, no detail..in it Paulson says he has sole control..don't ask him any questions. What a consummate egotistical thing! Stay tuned! :)
Thanks to the Jon Stewart show I know that 700 Billion dollars would buy 2000 McDonalds apple pies for every American.
What I want to know is, who took the time to stop and figure that out???
That is precisely why Washington should have access to as little money as possible. Just think what this irresponsible Congress will do if it gets its hands on 1/6th of the entire economy and legal justification to dictate the manner in which you must attend to your own body.
I think it is somewhat nieve to think that by simply throwing money at a problem, it will go away. How much money has the government thrown at social programs like Poverty. Huge programs designed to transfer wealth from the rich to the poor over the past 50 years. More than a trillion dollars, but there is still proverty.
Send me a trillion and I'll let you know...

Odd. Congress has plenty of time now to focus on the Solyndra scandal...but no time at all to focus on a jobs bill. Partisan politics?

You're reading Wars in Iraq and Afganistan, Wall Street bail outs. A trillion here-a trillion there. Can you even grasp what positive things could be done with a trillion dollars?
