I also want to say that I think it's ridiculous that cops stop bums from doing it but then I see cops, firemen, kids, and churches doing it all the time. I thinkit is dangerous, a distraction to drivers and an accident waiting to happen. I am also sad that kids are taught to just go bum for money (often times scantily clad) as opposed to doing something creative like raffles, bake sales or other fund raisers where they have to work for it and actually contribute something back.

Panhandlers will always be among us. They are free to get a job and earn a living, or beg for money from strangers. Their choice. It's your choice to either give them something or ignore them.

In Anchorage they couldn't stop these people from begging at dangerous/busy intersections so they made it illegal to give to the beggers. And yes, I see cops, firemen, kids, and churches doing it all the time here also, but then I don't have to feel guilty about not giving do I? - As it is illegal!
