  • I have a new model ruger super blackhawk 44 mag and I have had it since july 1991 and I have never gone in to the bush without it. I live in the Yukon and there are many bears here, let alone big game animals, and to not have my single action pistol with me in the back country is like going into the back country naked. I prefer my single action for the simple reason of its ruggeds design and it depedability in all weather condition rain sleet snow sub zero conditions. By super black hawk can take just about any thing thrown at it, When I pull that hammer back it fires every time. I prefer the single for it works for me, and thats all that counts
  • Double action is better for consistent grouping. You have the same pull everytime. When under stress, the second shot usually will be off.
  • On autoloaders, SA is best if you are allowed to carry cocked and locked, otherwise DA Only is best. On revolvers, the single action is strictly a recreational or hunting gun. No one is going to carry one as a duty or service sidearm. Maybe a .22 stainless pocket piece as a second backup.
  • When I go hunting I carry a Smith and Wesen 500magam it is a SA but I'v took a bunch of deer and bear with it; causeit is bad when you walk up on a deer or beer from 10 to 15 yards with a 338. rifle.
  • DA. On revolvers with DA, you have a choice of using DA or SA if you thumb the hammer back. On autos, DA is quicker if you need to take a shot in a hurry.
