Why do people seem to think that Lexus is a German manufacturer when it obviously states that it is under Toyota Motor Corp. in advertisements?

I have no idea what could possible seem german about the car. There is no linkage whatsoever to germany, additionally it isnt even traditionaly german as in practical sturdy well done over beutiful design. However lots of car companies gets bought up and made subdivisional to larger companies. It happened to Swedens two top car brands Saab and Volvo(not 100% sure its both of them but Saab definitely).
