Well $1,000,000 converts to around £550,000 . It would buy you a five bedroom detached in its own ground perhaps around a quarter of an acre at the most,mind you the way the prices are going they are negotiable at the moment . Since the banking colapse started about six months ago house prices have fallen by around 25% and still dropping.Mind you they were highly overpriced. People are now having problems getting mortgages from the banks who are now requiring at least 20% deposit and high interest rates and will only take 3 times your annual salary as their maximum loan.

That would be a nice five or six bedroom house with several bathrooms and most likely some high ceilings in the main rooms. It would have a large master bedroom, probably with a spa in the bathroom. Way north almost to the oregon border you could buy an ocean front or you could buy a ranch or you could buy a very nice huge victorian home with lots of bedrooms, bathrooms, deck,pool, etc... and it is beautiful here in the heart of the redwoods.

In the Minneapolis-Saint Paul market, that one million would purchase a 4 to 6 bedroom, 4 or 5 bath executive home of near 5000 finished square feet. At least that is the average of 120 active listings on Northstar MLS. On the other hand, I have four active listings of 4 BR, 3 or 4 bath executive homes of similar finish quality (lots of stonework and exotic hardwoods) with finished square footages around 3500 (approaching 5000 total) that are priced from $569K to $749K. With luck, I will have one less by tomorrow afternoon. ;-)

Well, for that kind of money ; I could buy just about THE best ouse in this area .... Five Bed Rooms , 7 or 8 baths , Triple Attached garage , Large Island Kitchen, Huge Living room with built in Projection Tv and sound system, Family Room , game Room, and MORE ... all on the riverfront ... But; once i purchased this dream home ; I would NOT have the $$$ to pay the outrageous real estate taxes we have in Volusia County , Florida .
