  • Not sure of the rules out there. Here if you work over 8 hours it is an automatic overtime. They are regulated by the State.
  • This happens all over the country. These are not employees but contractors who carry the mail from the plant to the associate post offices. During the time they are waiting to return to the plant they are free to do whatever they please. So in effect they have a "split shift." They work 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon. They may be employees of the contractor, but they are not employees of the postal service.
  • Mail between post offices is usually carried by independent contractors. The terms of compensation are determined by the contract, not by wage and hour laws.
