If you are just starting, consider buying a used inexpensive upright piano. There are typically many listed for sale in local papers, Craigslist, and eBay. For a few hundred bucks plus the cost of moving and tuning, you can see what you think of playing. Most people don't make it longer than a year. This way your investment is small. You will also learn so much about the feel and sound you like that you will be better prepared if you wish to pay big bucks for a different piano.
