Here it is: have a good laugh.

I saw this video a long time ago and it reminded me of something a friend told me once, Family Guy stole the joke as well a few months ago, and it always makes me cringe. Sure it's funny, but in the reality of LOTR, it is absurd. It is no quick journey to Mordor from Rivendell, even for eagles. As we know, Sauron commands many slaves, including birds, and the Nazgul on their flying steeds. The Nazgul are also drawn to the ring and several times sense the power of it in their valley as Frodo approaches Mordor. Needless to say, the eagles would be discovered very easily before achieving their goal, as flying through the air doesn't provide much subterfuge for stealth missions. The eagles certainly would have been attacked and overwhelmed by Sauron's massive forces, which might lead to his recovery of it, but at the very least would reveal the council's secret plan to destroy the ring, which would essentially screw the pooch on the whole "Battle for Middle-Earth."
