Sometimes when you just save over the old file, Word will increase the size. I'm not sure the reason. Try to do a 'save as...' instead and replace the old file instead of just saving over the original.

If you're going for pure content rather than preserving the fancy fonts, custom margins, and other "features" like previous file revisions that your Word document saves along with your file, consider copy-pasting your text into Notepad instead. This should result in a file much smaller than 100 KB. Good luck.

Assuming you're talking about a Word file - try this: Go get the free Microsoft "Remove Hidden Data Tool" and install it. When you're ready, use the utility to quickly rid the file of all history and personal information. You will find the file size drop dramatically.
