The level of political debate on AB is appalling. Does this represent the level of political awareness in America as a whole? I have seen so many postings spreading misinformation which panders to racism, xenophobia, misogyny and homophobia. Obama seems to be suffering the most, but the other side is getting something of the same since Palin entered the fray. Have people lost the ability to debate on political issues, or is personal insult the lingua franca of politics in the USA?

I think everyone has the right to their own opinion. What I would like to see is more discussion on the issues, not who is better than the other.

Sorry folks! ... A poorly written question indeed ... I was doing 3 things at once ... Please forgive my being so busy. ♥

I Am an Obama supporter, period. I woudn't vote for McCain even if he offered me the Vice Prez spot. I simply cant stand the man. With that said - I can't understand why some people go so ape sh*t spastic when it comes to talking about politics in either the left - right - or middle versions. Nobody learns a damned thing from an insult except how ignorant the insulter is. And you don't learn a damned thing about a canidate from TV advertising or political pundits on the radio. You learn what canadate suits your particular lifestyle by reading the facts about him or her in newspapers, and impartial websites. Read what Obama has on his website - read what McCain Say's on his, then you factcheck the hell out of both guys propaganda and see who's lying to you and then you reason out which of the two idiots is most likely to do what you want a president to do. I've made my choice allready - McCain has such a history of saying one thing one day and then doing something else later that I woudn't have him as dogcatcher - you can't trust him - he's just another self serving political hack - he's a republican BILL CLINTON in my book, and that makes him a zero to me. Anyway - THATS MY OPINION - YOURS WILL UNDOUBTABLY BE DIFFERENT THEN MINE!!! Now go do the research, take the time to factcheck, study their history, and make your own choice. There are tons of lies out there and a kernel of truth burried someplace under it - dig till you find it then weigh the canadates on their own merrits and shortcommings, If you don't do that - then your an idiot and you shoudn't vote. In fact I hope to heck you don't vote before finding out the truth yourself - it's moronic lack of reasion like this which gave us Bush Jr., one of the most loathed and incapable political hacks in the history of our nation.

What I find appalling here in the political pages is that so many people seem to jump down the throats of others when they are asked for their opinion (and DR them). Some of the questions, I'm sure, are to bait people into answering so the asker can berate anyone who has an opposing view. No one is ever going to agree 100% when it comes to politics. But in this AB category (and also LGBT and religion), so many people are on the attack. I happen to not agree with the majority of Republican views and agree with most of the views of the Democrats. That's why I vote Democrat...and why I'm voting for Obama. What people really need to do is have open-minded discussions instead of juvenile mud-slinging (that goes for here on AB and with the actual campaigns).
