I am looking for ideas for items to make for a christmas shop for an elementary school. the gift items are for kids to purchase for friends and family. I want to make items that don't look homemade.

Well, shoot. There go the gold-painted macaroni necklaces, then. And I suppose that pen & pencil holders made from old soup cans are out, too. And woven potholders? I guess you won't be a source for those, either. I'm confused, though. Are you planning to make things yourself to sell to elementary school kids? Don't they still do these things themselves? How else are we going to keep up the supply of gold-painted macaroni necklaces, otherwise?

We called that "Santa's Secret Shop" when I was in PTA. Craft stores have great books that yoy can purchase and you'll always have ideas from it.. They hace great things to make from felt, clothe pins, Christmas balls, oh just everything. Even walnuts! I have ecieved many in the last few years from a friend that still works in our school. She makes them for her class. They are great abd don't look homemade. Hope I've helped:)

Hi, I was a teacher's assistant in an elementary school, and at xmas, me and some of the kids would make table centre pieces. Simple, yet beautiful. Here goes: 1) Milk carton bottom or similar, approx. 3" high, you need something watertight, and wrap the outer part with xmas wrap. 2)Oasis, that foamy brick stuff that you can buy at a florist. It is water holding styrofoam-like sponge that holds water for keeping your cuttings watered, as well as holding the cuttings in place. 3) The cuttings are anything green, mostly evergreen tree pieces, from 2 to 8 " long. 4) One candle, longer ones look nice and wide ones may be too wide to stick in the oasis. 5) Misc. stuff, like tiny square inch pretend gifts, tiny ornaments, ribbons, bows,all on wire and stuck into the oasis. So depending on the talent pool, they can look really good, and florist center pieces are way too expensive, making these a good alternative.

There are dozens of ways to make nice coasters. I would suggest you do that. Another idea is to make reusable grocery bags out of washable fabric.
