  • In some areas of life and culture, I think the worst in humanity comes out. Pet ownership is, imho, the numero uno area that the worst characteristics of humanity come out. Having a pet is like having a baby in some respects. You have a being that is less capable than yourself, and requires your attention to survive. Because of this, your parenting instincts come out and you will defend the pet's actions to the bitter end, yet...it is a cat, dog, etc. and not even a toddler. Plus most people truly don't have time to be pet owners. Today's world is so busy.... Yet they grew up with pets and can't imagine living without them = neighbors have to (literally and figuratively) deal with the "crap" that the pet owner doesn't have time to deal with. Sigh. Don't get me started back up about whether I can go over and poop on my neighbor's lawn because they walk their dog on mine...in broad daylight, without as much as a pooper scooper!
  • While there are inconsiderate people out there who don't really care what happens in YOUR yard, I think a lot of folks don't take into account that their little darlings will wander because they see them snoozing on the porch or in their yard and expect they stay put. Little do they realize that as soon as their backs are turned, off the stinkers go! Try moth balls around places they like to ruin. I've heard that could help. Also, a bit of chicken wire put down before the plants come up in the spring can let the plants grow up and around the wire so it's practically invisible but the cats can't dig so they'll go somewhere else. • i have ur problem solver it was the same for me on all for sides of my back yard there is my neighbors back yard and all my neighbors have cats and the cats would use my yard as a shortcut and a bathroom so it was pretty anoyying know i have a dog and i havent seen a cat for 6 months but before my mom would buy this thing from homedepot call critter ridder and we would put it all around the yard under the fence and it lasted for 30 days and it worked it protects ur yard from dogs cats and all rodents if u have a dog just leave ur dog in the yard and it should do the job dont use the critter ridder stuff if u have a dog .
  • Cats are not like dogs, dogs have owners and you cannot "own" a cat unless they are registered much like the purebreds system.. They don't have to be on a leash and they wander at will. Black pepper will keep cats from coming into your yard. But must be reapplied when it blows away or after a rain. They do make Critter ridders that are effective.
  • very helpful advice, you learn something different everyday. thanks
  • Are you certain they aren't feral cats?
  • Have you ever tried to keep a cat in your yard? It is impossible. However, you are right, you can keep them inside and/or have them fixed. We let our cats outside, but they aren't going to be having kittens anymore and the neighbors never complained. Do your neighbors know how much it bothers you?
  • Cats don't stay put and there is nothing anyone can do aside from keeping them in the house, which few people like to do. My advice, MARK YOUR TERRITORY. Pee in a jug and pour it all around the premisis of your home and or yard. Good luck.
  • One, out of ignorance. My cat is kept inside day and night and is perfectly happy (and she was born a feral cat; she was rescued at 3 months). Two, some of the cats may be ferals or strays and there really is no way to tell. I would try the suggestions above to keep the cats out of your yard, and if any of them seem sick, injured, or otherwise unwell, call animal control or the humane society to have them removed (they will not pick up just any cat, though).
  • Well, It's not like dogs. You can train a dog not to go in someone else's lawn but unfortunately cats just do whatever they want.
