How do you spell a name to someone, if your language is based on signs, not on letters (chinese, japanese.....)

With considerable dificulty! There are standards for phonetic translations but they are widely disimilar. The actual phoenetic language that linguists use regularly is probably the best, but I found it much easier to just learn the Thai alphabet in the first place!
