I think you'll find that many of the people that are doing this, are new members. It's easy enough to tell by a -1 rate, which I'm seeing quite a bit as well. -1 doesn't really do anything to a user that's been here awhile, so these twits are wasting their time, but hey...I bet they get amused by shiny objects too.

*sigh* I know, it sucks, but it isn't me! Rest assure, anyone with a brain rates you up when you deserve it (which in my experience is all the time)

It isn't me, either. If anyone who has been here a significant amount of time starts rating you down...you'll know it. The number of points a positive and negative rating are worth depends on level of the user giving you the rating. Hang in there.

sadly i think you spend too much time on your computer. you need to realise that people who rate you down arent trying to offend you, theyre just looking for something to do with their miserable lives. if clicking little buttons amuses them, who are we to try and stop them? (and i realise that this will get rated down)

Well, first of all, it isn't me. I only rate BAD questions and answers down. I also wouldn't show as (-1). These people really suck, and they don't help my average, that is for sure! And second, I doubt the 'sneaky little weasels' will fess up. They are trolls, and only come to do harm.

Perhaps we need a support group. I certainly rate my "friends" when they make an appropriate honest, accurate or humorous response. Simply because they have earned it, but also to offset the trolls/"dingers" by my definition. AB really is more about community and being helpful, while having a little fun. The trolls will soon bore of this as they are not contributors and will not advance. Points are FREE! Enjoy handing them out to your friends and deserving participants!

True, as it comes, ratings are a good way to show, and feel appreciation for the plus points, as well as to keep some from just filling up the place with jabber-walkie. But hey, isn’t it truly that which comes to us in benefit by the great responses from another, as well as those mind tapping questions that bring us all the true reward of AB? I understand how good it feels when one pops onto their own main page to find lots of points, or not so gleeful when their efforts have been subjected to the ills of those point grabbing phantoms you inquire about. In the whole of things, I find that our true reward comes from the sincere, those ones to whom truly care, and who have left the words to prove the value of something, and can’t ever be taken away, unlike those numbers. It's not me. i do rate some people down but only for answers that do not even come close to answering the question or ones thta are offensive. i don't understand why people rate others down for no reason, but i predict it's just a big joke to them and there is no good excuse

I think it is especially lame when people rate down answers on looks and such. If you dont find the person attractive then pass the answer up, dont hurt their feelings. Its just not nice, you know?

it's very likely unrelated to the answer. yesterday I was downrated for my answer to a question about what countries you've visited in your lifetime. hahaha! it's clearly just lashing out.

Many of the downratings are single points, so we know they are being done by relatively new members in many cases. I think the system should be changed so that you have to be at least a level 10 before you get down rating privileges.

It is not me, But I think I have an explenation. Probably because they just want to be better that everyone. And even though when they now it is a helpful answer and you know you should give it a good rating, They give it a bad rating because they know know it hurts people and for some disgusting reason, they enjoy watching them get hurt. Some people are just immature. Just ignore them and have fun asking and answering questions and interacting with different people from all over the world. If you let them get you down they win. If you ignore them and chalk it up to people just being Pains in the rear end then you will overcome them.

Answerbag's anonymity is VERY attractive to TRUE bullies. It facilitates their unevolved, anti-social, malicious tendency to "throw the brick and hide [their] hands. Bullies are petrified of fair "fights", taking personal responsibility for their actions, standing behind what they believe, emotional intelligence, intellectual prowess, authority, ANY form of criticism, diversity of thought and belief, being ignored, and other bullies, Have compassion. What little sense of fleeting significance they feel comes from the "power" of down rating others. To paraphrase Toni Morrison; If the only way you can feel tall is by cutting others off at the knees then you have a profound sickness of the soul.

Too much spare time? Not understanding how the site works? The answers are endless. It's unfortunate that it happens, but don't let it spoil your overall AB experience. I do think it would be nice to have a Top 10 for most negative ratings given--sheesh, if an individual can't find any good answers or is simply a troll then show them for what they are. Personally, I think and I have said it before, that new users ought to have to earn being able to rate answers. Post questions, ask questions, even leave comments, but no rating others until you have proven you are not a troll.

Answerbag provides anonymity in asking, answering and giving ratings. Sometimes people exercise misdirected anger and pick on another member because they are actually frustrated by something completely different. They have the vehicle of Internet to act as a buffer so they never have to rate you in person, which most of them would not have the courage to do. You can either confront them, ignore them or just wait until more reasonable people rate you up.

Why let them? So they give you a bad rating. So what? The sun will come up tomorrow. You can't eat ratings. If your answers have merit, they will be rated up, and you still can't eat them. You can't eat trolls either, because you can't find them. I tried. If you want to know how meaningless points can be (not that they are always meaningless) take a look at the following question, and notice the question (at this time) is -5 yet every answer is positive except for one zero. AB is just like a virtual society. U can either get bashed or priased for ur opinion just like the real world. Its also a good way to see how ur opinion effects other people. So u can be aware of what ur opinon means to people in the real world. So of course thiers some downrating bullys. but the same lurks in the real world..
