No one credible knows for sure. He may be dead but he might also just want people to think that because he doesn't want to die.
-
Alive and fine. He probably lives in a hotel suite laughing his ass off knowing the world is running around like chickens with their heads chopped off.
-
He is... I mean.. He might be planning for his comeback.. Didn't you see his Son coming on a video ??
-
I think that it holds no bearing on anything either way and probably never has to begin with so I tend to try and NOT think about it at all... He isin't worth the expenditure.
-
I suspect he is still alive and being sheltered by a country capable of large scale secrecy.

Alive. We have pretty decent voice recognition technologies, and his voice has been identified on recent tapes. But, I don't think it matters much. If he were to poke his head out for more than a few minutes, he'd die in a huge fireball. The Al Qaeda leadership has been severely weakened, but there will always be more scumbag, loser terrorists to move up the ranks.

I think there is a definite possibility that he is dead. It is speculated that he could have kidney disease, though this hasn't been verified. If he does, he would continue to get sicker as time went on. If he is dead, his followers certainly have some reason to want to cover it up. Keeping up the illusion of him still being alive could shift the focus off of their other activities, and keep their targets in some level of fear. You can also do wonders with video editing these days. We'll never know for sure until we find remains that can be conclusively identified as his, or find him alive, though. I'm kind of hoping that he's alive, myself. He REALLY deserves torture. Not the kind we're allowed to do, either. I'm talking Medieval techniques. :D
