She often is fluffed or ruffled up and her poops get really huge as she lays the eggs. Then she will stop laying and just sit on the eggs. A good broody hen is a wonderful thing to have in your flock as she can raise more chicks for you, even ducks and geese for some larger hens. But you'd never want all your hens to be that way as when they get broody, they will stop laying very soon.
